September birthday, new school...

Hi all,

Just hoping for some advice really please. Hope this is the right place to post this.

My son's birthday is in the first week of September and normally we would have his party that weekend. However, he will have started Reception at a new school just a few days before this date.

As far as I'm aware, the norm for this age group would be to invite the whole class, however, that's incredibly short notice for parents invites in book bags, plus I don't even have the kids' names for invites, but I don't see why my DS should not have the same birthday experience that other kids will have later in the year.

I am thinking that perhaps he could have his party a couple of weeks later to give him the chance to settle with his new friends and to give other parents in the class fair notice of the party.

I am considering putting in the invite that I know that we don't know the other families very well yet, but that presents are absolutely not expected and I would love to get to know some other parents.

Please let me know what you think, I need to get organising asap!!

Thanks!

Ds's birthday is early September, we usually hand invitations to the teacher to drop in book bags on term day 2, (not day 1, too much already to deal with for everyone). The party is for 2 or 3 weeks later and we've never had an issue.

It really doesn't matter how close it is to their birthday, the other children will have no clue anyway.

My dd has a 4th September birthday. It took me several years to work out that it was better to do the party a few weeks into term! Defo do that this and every year

Thank you all :) I'll book the party for a few weeks into term. Fingers crossed it goes well. More nervous about this one than ever before!

Are you on Facebook? There's often a reception class group. I've already had a party invite for September via our class fb group. Maybe worth checking?
If not your plan sounds fine.
