Our son will be reading something at our wedding in 3 weeks but for the life of me I can't find the right text. Have been looking at song lyrics and poems. When I suggest love-related stuff he looks like he might faint (e.g. John Lennon "Love"). I think we need something funny and light hearted - maybe about family/parents/the future? I was trying to think of a poem by Michael Rosen but have had no luck. Any ideas anyone? I've been so confused I wondered about the Pokemon them song...
We had my 11 year old cousin read love is like owning a dog. But we are dog people. We also had an excerpt from Calvin and Hobbes about love which was simple and funny.
From the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson
Calvin: What’s it like to fall in love? Hobbes: Well… say the object of your affection walks by. First, your heart falls into your stomach and splashes your innards. All the moisture makes you sweat profusely. This condensation shorts the circuits to your brain and you get all woozy. When your brain burns out altogether, your mouth disengages and you babble like a cretin until she leaves. Calvin: THAT’S LOVE?!? Hobbes: Medically speaking. Calvin: Heck, that happened to me once, but I figured it was cooties!
Just realised I did edit out Cretin and cooties though!
Thanks for sharing that its lovely - I've just decided to help him write his own poem.... its the only way to keep it real!
