Is there a reason why parties always seem to have food at the end of the party?

I'm planning my daughter's party and ideally I think logistically it would work best if I had activities for the children (6 years) to drop in and out of as they arrive for the first 20 minutes, then have lunch, then have the entertainment for the last hour or so.

Other than being sugar hyped up and wanting to get rid of them as soon as possible after this is there another reason I haven't thought of for why this wouldn't work?

I could do the entertainment first, then the food then the drop in activities for the final 15-20 minutes but it will take a while to set up these activities so I'd rather have them out ready for the start of the party and then get them out the way..
