My eldest turns 6 in two months time and I'm thinking of having a party for him. He hasn't settled too well at school and I want to encourage him to build his friendships with some of the other boys in his class. I don't want to spend a lot so was thinking of a small party at home, maybe four friends for tea? Does anyone have any ideas of activities for lively active boys that won't end in tears (favourite pastime is 'battling' at the momentHmm despite coming from a very peaceful household!!)

Sorry, I don't have experience of boys but would a treasure hunt work? They need to figure out the riddle to get the location of the next clue? It would help them burn off steam and you could make it a spy adventure/superhero mission to save the world or his birthday cake? If you have a fun uncle who would be willing to dress up as a hero to deliver the cake to the door that would be fab.

Ps it might actually work out cheaper to take 5 friends to the cinema or a football party for all friends. I tried to have a cheap party at home but I spent so much money on extras and things to make it really fun that I might as well have had a softplay party. At least I wouldn't have had to worry about cleaning the house!

Pps when I had a pamper party at home for my dd1 they actually had the most fun just running about and playing. The activities were good for breaking the ice though.

Ours have loved wool mazes, treasure hunts, what's the time Mr Wolf, disco. Get some pipe lagging or swim noodles, cut in half and turn into light sabre with which to battle and which can double up as party favour.

My son's birthday is around halloween so we normally do a halloween themed treasure hunt with quiz questions and a lego building challenge. The lego one is normally the most popular. I get the treasure hunt and quiz questions online. We enjoy doing it every year.
