I have a 6 year old party coming up and I just hate the really crap things you get in party bags. Can people suggest some nice things they've received/given in party bags please?

I generally give a book (packs from the book people) and a packet a sweets/ buttons. I can't stand buying crap for the sake of it even though the children love it.

This year I bought a pack of where's wally books.

I think it's pretty cost effective.

kids always love temporary tattoos and they always appreciate the chocolate more than any plastic tat. Also, for some reason, wrist slapping bracelets with animals on are the bees knees for girls and boys. Don't ask me why but all my kids (6,8,9) love them. Having a home make cake rather than shop bought bleurgh seems to more important that tat as well…if the cake is good, and there is chocolate/a lollipop they are happy. Pencils are always good for homework! My daughter had a kind of keyring dragon rather than lots of tat which she loved, and those that went to said party stuck them on their book bags.

It's not so much the cost but I'd like something worthwhile to go in the bags instead of the usual junk. And also as a thank you to the kids/parents for their attendance and gifts

The dinosaur eggs which hatch when put in water were popular here. Also aeroplanes shaped like dinosaurs.

Glow sticks. Big chunky ones, from pound shops and Home Bargains.

I bought knock off Lego figures from eBay, think it was 8 superhero figures for about £3.50. You can't tell they aren't Lego and work out very cheap.
I like to theme party bags to match the theme of the party
So I have done
Hawaiian - flip flop note books and flamingo stickers, pineapple shaped pens and flower garlands and grass skirts.
Science party - lab coats (that they used at party) with personalised I'd cards clipped on, test tubes full of sweets and horrible science books
Camping party - pillow cases they had decorated at the party, twig pencils,
Dora explorer party - purple paper bags made into little back packs with compass watches, glow sticks, whistles, maps made out of felt and rolled up

I think this stuff is just landfill - get a book or jigsaw or those arty colouring books -

Anything other than plastic tat that beaks

I serve chips & pizza type food at parties followed by cake.
I send the sweets home in the bags.

The plastic tat from party bags always ends up on the floor of my car, never makes it into the house.
I dump it asap.
