My friend turns 40 and we are al going out for a meal and drinks, plan was to go away but she has recently split from her finance and doesnt want to be away from the kids. I would like to make it special but not sure how in a restaurant. If at home would have been able to put pictures up and play games etc. Any ideas????

You could still do pictures in a restaurant surely? Do you know where your going? You could phone ahead and surprise her with personalised photo balloons or a personalised photo cake (Think Asda can do them!) You can do 'party bags' with games...Like a hen night. Quizzes, dares and things like that? You could always surprise her on route as well with something public? Like a big personalised banner in the street outside the restaurant? Hope this helps!

I think personalized gifts would be a good idea, they make one feel much more special than ordinary gifts. Since your friend had a break-up recently I think the celebrations should be in such a way that she is comfortable and relaxed. You can also gift her something based on her favorite show or sport.
We celebrated my sister-in-laws 35th bday last month, she is a huge fan of the NHL team Toronto Maple Leaves so we gifted her this www.flowerscanada.com/toronto-maple-leafs--hockey-night-tin
Similarly if your friend has a favorite team like this you can gift her a memorabilia related to that.

You could ask the restaurant to make her a birthday cake, hopefully iced with her name, and candles. Waiter then brings it out and everyone sings Happy Birthday.

Is your friend likely to want pictures, party games and a banner in the street? Personally I can't think of anything more embarrassing but each to their own Grin.

I think if you all share her cost of the meal and make sure there is champagne/sparkling wine waiting for you all as soon as you arrive, perhaps a big bouquet as well, that will be 'special' enough. Smile.

We jazzed up a table in a restaurant for my friends 30th, glitter o. The tables a bunch of balloons, a bottle of fizz waiting on arrival and her dessert came out on a plate with happy birthday piped on it. Then we went back to someone else's house which we had decorated with posters etc and we drank cocktails and danced to music from our schools days, was fab.

For my mates birthday we bought mini boxes of thorntons chocolates (2 in a box) like favors for each guest. We put sparkles on table, balloons, banner on the nearest wall, cake and champagne. May be nice to have suprised guests like some friends she's not expecting but would love to see.
