Ideas for baby's first birthday?

My DS is fast approaching his first birthday. (I can hardly believe my baby will be one so soon!) We're thinking of having a family birthday party, inviting just the grandparents (both sets). As my DS won't be aware that it's his birthday, I'm not really sure what we could do together once the cake & pressies are over and done with. Does anyone have any good ideas? I'd like it to be a special day and be able tell my DS one day what a lovely time we had on his first birthday.

You will have a lovely time.
A simple family party with cake, presents and some tea is usually enough.
As you say, your DS won't be aware that it's his birthday and he won't understand about blowing out the candle on his cake.
However, he will love being the centre of attention and he will love seeing all his grandparents and drowning in presents.
Would having a lovely family afternoon centred around him not be enough of a special memory?

I think keep it simple as small babies do not like to be out of their routine. So maybe a few friends and family
