DH and our daughter were talking and she said things are financially very tight for them just now , So DH asked our daughter if she and her DH and children want to come to us for dinner on Christmas , to save her the expense. She said she'd think about it. This was two weeks ago . Saw them on Saturday and asked if they had decided yet ? Not committed yet, her DH said he's happy to do what he's told, ( he's happy at ours or staying at theirs) I want to book my order in and really need to know soon , can't work out what the problem is. Get the feeling she's waiting for a better offer ? Or for us to drop them £500 to cover it for them ( which we could do, but I'm getting a bit fed up of being a cash machine ) how do I politely ask her to make her bloody mind up ? Or do I just buy a massive turkey in the hope they come ? (If they don't come there's just three of us and only two eat meat ! )

Just say you need to know so you can put the order in.
She needs to make her mind up

I think it's reasonable to say that you need to know by the weekend and if she doesn't get back to you, you'll assume she's staying at home. It was a nice offer - the least she can do is give you a timely answer.

Just tell her you need to know by tomorrow as you're going to order the turkey. If she still says she doesn't know then tell her you assume that means no and that its fine with you, you're not offended. Don't offer money instead.

Give her a deadline.

It sounds like for some reason she is reluctant. Agree that you need to set a deadline and stick to it.

Text, DD can you let me know if you’re coming for Christmas Dinner by XX date, as I need to order a turkey.

Leave the ball in her court

Thanks all, spoken to my DH too and we'll text her tonight as the farm need to know by weekend. I think she was hoping for money instead.
