Start using Mumsnet PremiumHere is a question. 2 adult kids 21 and 24 chicken pox vaccine ?
(6 Posts)Good idea. We got our DD vacc'd for chickenpox when she was in yr 10 - she'd never been exposed to it as far as we're aware and wanted it done before gcses etc.
Their choice absolutely but they are students and don't have a spare £200 floating about.
Thanks all I'll talk to them and suggest they call their gps and ask if they'd consider doing a blood test to check immunity. Though potentially this will cost too!
I was tested in pregnancy for the antibodies as I work with children and my risk of exposure was high. If any of the DC are female then an extra consideration that they wouldn't want to contract CP during pregnancy.
They can be tested to see if they have antibodies i.e. have been exposed and are immune. If not immune, well it's their choice at that age, but personally I would be vaccinated.
Dd1 had a very mild dose - exactly two weeks after dd2. Tiny pinprick spots, no blisters, 48hrs start to finish. Would not have recognised it other than the timing. Has been exposed at least twice since (once to a sibling) and not developed it. My guess would be that they are immune but worth making them aware and offering should they want it.
Hi
Anyone answer this?
My 2 grown up kids have apparently not had chicken pox. However they were exposed as youngest had it when they were small kids as did adult dh.
Knowing how bad dh was with in mid 30s I'm musing suggesting paying for it for them. I am particularly worried about it knocking them off at uni exams or key career points
However 95% of the adult population are apparently immune. Wwyd ?
Very open to allegations that I'm just a neglectful parent and the had a mild dose I didn't notice 😂
