Help me to be less selfish!

Ok, this sounds awful but at least I am trying to better myself and this should count for something. I am expecting a bit of a bashing though.

Ok, DD is due in September and I don't really
get on with PIL. Well I do, I'm just not their biggest fan. What I need help with is actually wanting to 'share' our daughter with them.
I had this problem with my beautiful nephew, I hated sharing him with BILs family (even though I really like them) and I don't want to feel like this with DD.
I absolutely want her to have a relationship with DPs family, I'm just awful and selfish and don't want to share.

So ashamed please help.

Well it may get better when your dd is actually here. I really, really am not my PILs biggest fan, but because I can see how much they love her, and I want her to be loved, I manage. (I still usually send her there with DP and without me, though )

I was exactly the same. Gradually, once DS was born, I became happier about PIL spending time with him - and am now quite keen for them to babysit every so often so I can have some 'me' time!! I think what changed was, while I was pg I had not anticipated just how hard the first few weeks would be and how I would NEED time off and also, it was really touching to see how much they loved him as much as I do.

I don't think you can actively DO anything to change the way you feel, it can't be forced, but it may well come naturally.
