Temperature and Teeth

My DD is 8 months old and is definitely teething. I can feel the bottom one just through her gum. But for the last 12 hours she's had a temperature of around 38.5 and been very fragile. Would this temp be caused by teething? She's got no other symptoms of anything else - healthy appetite still and I can make her giggle so she's obviously not too bad, though very clingy and 'on the edge'. But the temperature doesn't come down with nurofen etc and i'm just a bit confused as to whether this is a 'low grade fever' caused by teeth or something else. Anyone had similar experience? TIA

Hope your DD is feeling better now

I've just gone through the same thing with my ds who is also 8 months, his temp was going from 35.1 up to 38.6 and was crying a lot although not of his food. We took him to the docs on Sunday who said it was a throat infection even though he showed no other symptoms. He advised us to give calpol and ibuprofen to take down temp and easy pain. Thankfully today he was fine, although the calpol didn't bring down his temp.

He told us that so long as they get enough fluids, wet nappies and seem bright and alert then the high temp was nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps

Hi, my son has always had very high temps since he was a baby! Nothing took it down at all and we ended up at AandE lots of times!

From the info I got at the hosp..... A temp of 38.5 is high but nothing to cause alarm as such. Saying that with any temp that isnt coming down its always best to go get baby checked as its noramly a cause of some infection somewhere in the body.

My sons temp was always 39 - over 40 thats why we took him straight to hosp as they always helped us lower the temp.

As fraggy said lots of fluids and make sure your DD is having lots of wet nappys. It sounds like it is most likley teething tho.

Hope your DD feels better real soon! Those teeth dont half cause problems xxx

Thanks Fraggy and Mumof2 - her temp went up to over 40 so took her to be checked out and turned out she has a Urinary Tract Infection, so now on antibiotics. Her teeth are also coming through - poor wee thing!
