Parenting

Oh for heavens sake, please remind me that two Inferiorettes is enough!

I am very, very bad at pregnancy - hate it from start to finish, not including the SPD. I am also appalling at dealing with small babies. They reduce me to a snivelling wreck on the constant brink of ringing Social Services. I find parenting a constant struggle which is only negotiated by dint of constant whingeing on-line and in person to everyone I know. Now that my younger daughter has turned two - and I indeed have turned 42 - I am finally reclaiming some sense of my life As It Was Known Before.

Please remind me that I don't want another baby and that my current broodiness is just a pre-menopausal blip of insanity!

do you feel you spend enough time with the two you've got as it is? i know i don't with mine - so with another the slice of the pie would be even smaller. how has having kids affected your relationship? will you still need to work if you have a third? what about increased childcare costs?

Money. Money. Money.
Enough reasons?
Um, and lack of sleep?
Look, babies are bloody lovely, ds wants another girl baby and it would be lovely, but dh is vehemently opposed, and we Don't Have Enough Money.
So, unless we win the Lottery on Saturday, that's me done.

Good points, BK. AND our childminder has no free places.

And really we should enjoy the fact that DP is just about to start a massively better-paid job, shouldn't we, not fritter it away on offspring.

i don't think i could face another if i had to go back to work - or rather i don't think i could face going back to work if i had another!

may this would help - as you get older you are more likely to have twins (or more) - so do you want another two babies ?

Although as the mother of twins - it's not as bad you as you think !

Report
bossykate · 01/08/2005 13:18

actually, if i were guaranteed twins, i'd do it. i must be completely howling!

MI you have been having this hormonal blip on and off for over 6 months now!
Either you are suffering from sleep-induced lack of decision-making ability, or some kind of madness is setting in. BK is doing a good job of talking the pair of you out of it...I think the thinly-sliced-pie is a good argument, and as for the MONEY....
BUT if she doesn't manage it, well, just go for it.

What are the things you really enjoy, and what is it about having another one that you hanker after?

Have you got enough bedrooms?

Blu · 01/08/2005 13:19

Er, MI, your cm WILL have a free place when the Infanta starts school, won't she?????

Report
throckenholt · 01/08/2005 13:20

I must be howling too - I was only musing this morning - I would only have another baby if I could be sure it would be twins again ! Reason - I don't want a tail end Charlie - and I couldn't ever face being pregnant two more times ! So being sensible and sticking with the 3 I have.

Ok, MI why do you want another? What does dp think? Can you project yourself forward five years when the Inferiorettes will be ten and eight (ish) - how does that feel? Or do you look at the picture and think 'where is my four year old?"
Look, I don't know! Do you want a bloody baby or not???

Report
wilbur · 01/08/2005 13:24

Actually, I think the "enjoy dp's pay rise" argument is the best one so far. (You see - you always know the best reasons for yourself!) Easing the purse strings makes family life so much better and think of all the places you can visit now the adorables are older and don't need so much baby kit. Exotic holidays, trips to the theatre, all are within your grasp.

the thing that always makes me almost agree with DH is that I don't actually want another 4 year old .. another baby yes .. but not another 4 year old
