8pm. It does depend on the child and the circumstances.

Mine goes about half 7 during the week and 8 on a weekend but it depends on the child . When he went to bed at 7 (only 6 months ago) he would be before 6 where as now he tends to sleep till 7 . Bliss

I don't think it's too early, my 8yo goes at 7.30.

No it's not and if I could ideally and actually get mine into bed, it would be at that sort of time.

I had to go to bed at 6.30 until I was about 10 and then it was 7pm until I was about 14. I was very embarrassed by that.

No imo.

Ds has only just started going to bed at 7.30 recently and he was 7 in Jan. He wakes at 6ish

Should've said that my Ds did go to bed at that time aged 6, but my Dd is only 3 and will not go to bed/sleep until the early hours!!!

my 4YO goes to bed at around 8pm or when she asks to go (if before 8)

i think 7pm is a little early but it all depends on what the child is used to IMO

No. My dd will be 6 in June and she goes at 7. She is tired out by that time. I do let her stay up at weekends, though 9 would be the very very latest

my twins are 6 are are usually in bed by 7 on a school night, a bit later at the weekend, up around 7am (one is an earlier riser than the other though!)

Not at all
my six yr old sleeps 7-7
perfect for getting up for school especially on the days I work and we have to leave the house at 7.45am, ouch!

DS1 is just 6 and goes to bed at 7/7.15pm, a little later at weekends.
He wakes any time between 6am (rare) and 7.30am (even rarer!).

depends what time they get up. Mine are supposed to be in bed by 7-7.15ish, and are usually asleep by 8, and are up about 6-6.30 in the morning.

As Belgo says
"It does depend on the child and the circumstances. "

well, ds has been invited to tea at a school friends house and when i aksed the mum what time we should pick ds up she said, 6.45.

i said that ds is usually in bed for 7 and she said "oh, we had better have an early tea then, that is a really early bed time isnt it?"
I think not, he has always gone to bed at 7-7.30 latest.
ds is an only so i dont know what other people consider a normal bedtime, and i was too embarrased to ask what time her lids go to bed.

I think it is whatever you think is best IMO. My DD (3.5) sometimes goes to bed as early as 6.30!

My DS is 6 ans starts going to bed at about 7pm. Asleep by about 8. From talking to other parents it seems a common sort of time although some definitely earlier.

On the picking up from playing after school front I generally say around 6pm and would never comment on another child's bedtime.

dd is nearly 6 and her perfect bedtime is 7.30pm

I say perfect as RL tends to get in the way.

Mine did at that age - asleep in minutes and slept for 11-12 hours. Children that age need that amount of sleep.

Supernanny was v interesting this week regarding sleep. I have thought for a long time that a lot of young children are not getting enough sleep/going to bed too late.
9-10 year olds increased their 'mental age' to 12 by having 11 hours sleep! When they only had 8 hours the age was redused to 7!

NO - not imo.

I read somewhere and heard some "expert" on the radio telling us all that children under 10 should get and need 11 hours sleep a night to be able to learn properly at school.

My 8yo gets that but my 11yo has never slept for more than 7 or 8 hours.

Mine goes at 8ish. We don't normally get home til 6. By the time we've done tea, baths, bit of playing or TV.....She sleeps through til 7am.
