Pre-crawling baby - where to safely place him during day?

My baby's 8.5 months and is starting to show signs of crawling - at least, he rolls around on the floor a bit. He can sit up without props but will keep toppling over every so often.

Like his toddler sister, he's been in an inflatable ring nest, but within a month learnt to lever himself over the edge and out.

I think his sister went straight from the ring to bottom-shuffling and was in a safer environment as no siblings then for her so she was always sitting around on the floor.

So now I'm stuck as to where to put him!

Too big for bouncy chair

electric swinging chairs too much hassle to keep strapping in and out of

he doesn't like the huge plastic bouncing car thing that you can stand in which Nanny bought (nor do I!)

not safe enough to leave him crawling around the living room with a hyper-toddler bouncing off walls and furniture

I hate those huge plastic walkers so not having one of them again

and not really enough room for a playpen.

Any more ideas?

In his highchair with toys? Pram/buggy? Travel cot?

Can't support his back well enough for a highchair yet.

Notlumbering big old Silver Cross into the living room for him to sit in, besides evenwith reins strapping in him it's along way down!

Travel cot, he coul dprobably clamber over and out of that.

How old is DD? Have you tried the floor? DS sometimes bounces toys off DS2s head but on the whole, despite DS1 being a...handful, he understand DS2 is little and needs to be gentle etc.

What does DD mean?

The baby's 8 months, toddler's nearly 3.

Yes he can sit on the floor for sure, propped up with cushions around him, but toddler bounces off everything and has smasehd into him dozens of times.

Even so, he won't sit up for long, he'll want to start rolling around/crawling.
