it was just some random duplo in a hat!

So DS went to bed with duplo in a hat on Wednesday night. Yesterday night he had a 30 minute screaming fit because we couldn't find the hat (and as for my attempt to create a suitable clothing based receptacle by knotting the legs of a pair of pyjama bottoms together, well, let us never speak of it again) then when we'd found the hat the screaming fit because he couldn't find the right duplo to go in it. I know he was tired so a little more emotional than normal anyway but is that a proportional response? (he's 4 and half BTW)

DS gets oddly attached to very strange things.

One time it was an empty water bottle that he'd stuffed a sock into. It was kicking around the house for weeks.

yes I think this is quite normal

ds slept with some sticks for months. Not even nice sticks. Muddy, bumpy, smelly ones. And he was distraught when they started breaking .

Non-specific Duplosis is a difficult syndrome to manage. I can empathise, as DD2 at a similar age suffered from the related condition Twin-Bear Microdifferentialism, in which only one of two identical toys would provide the necessary soothing ambience.

Ingenious though your pyjama bottom scheme was, it is the mark of an amateur, although I'm sure you realise that now.

You are taking the right steps in seeking the support of fellow mothers, and I would advise you perhaps shore your own nerves up with the application of Essence of Merlot, a natural remedy which proves highly therapeutic with a moderate dosage.

some kids are just weird

ds1 is one of them, he freaked out when we bought a new tv and has been known to steal toys from playschool as he felt they'd be lonely with no one to play with over the weekend.

he wet the bed night before last and his special toy, tiger, got wet. i tried to wash it but he freaked out and told me 'he's not wet, he's lovely and doesn't smell of pee at all' [rollingeyesemoticon]
