Getting teachers involved in DS party invite list ?

Until I read an AIBU on the subject I had no idea it was such an emotive topic but as it is thought I had better run this past some learned mumsnetters.

DS is at preschool. I am planning his 4th birthday party which is our first proper one. We are going to have it at a community hall so we can have up to 15 - 20 children there. I decided to get a list of DS class and run through it with him to see who he wanted to invite. All very well except there are duplicates of some of the childrens names i.e. 2 Reginalds and DS is very definite that he wants nice Reginald there but not the other Reginald. Trouble is being 3 3/4 he isn't too hot on surnames. As we are inviting some friends from outside nursery there isn't enough room to invite all the boy.

Would it be bad form to ask the teachers which Reginald etc he plays with ?

NB invites will go into their individual folder for each child, so those not invited will not know about it, unless mentioned by the other DCs.

I think it is fine at this age to ask the teacher.

I am assuming the preschool is quite a large class, and you aren't just leaving a handful out?

Invite everyone or just the ones that you know personally

Just ask, aslong as you are not inviting the majority of the class and leaving only a few out it is fine, ds1 is having his 5th party soon and he has invited about half his class along with non-school friends, anymore and the numbers would be mad!!

I don't think you need to invite everyone at nursery age? half of them probably your ds doesn't even know if they do different days etc

Noooooo, get lost, are you serious that there are two Reginalds in your ds's class?

There are 29 in his class so I can't invite everyone, it would be about half the boys and 1 or 2 of the girls, but again duplicate name issue as apparently one Millicent he loves and has to have there and the other one he doesn't like. ( NB both Millicent and Reginald are made up names )

I think that for other parties not all children are invited for a few reasons. One DS has been there since August and only started receiving invites this term, second one of the parties is in quite an expensive place so would seriously doubt that the parents are having everyone from the class along.

Also if DS genuinely doesn't like someone and believe me he was quite vocal on some of those he didn't want to invite I feel it is his party so he should get a say in who goes. Luckily most of those on the definite list are those where I know the mums anyway.
