Cheaper nappies?

Hi I am 32 weeks with number two & wanted to know if anyone can recommened any of the cheaper nappies (ie supermarket own brands). I always used pampers with DS1 and would possibly still use them at night but cheaper ones in the day to save some money? Any advice appreciated! thanks

I've always found Lidl nappies fab, Tesco's own OK but not as good as Lidl.

i always found lidl's own brand really good, although that was 4 years ago so they might have changed since then. good luck with baby.

I'm still using Lidl pull ups at night for dd2 and have no complaints btw, how shockingly bad are Huggies? Could never believe they're supposed to be a 'premium' brand, utter shite (literally)

I've used Tesco and Asda nappies overnight with DS (wears washables by day) and found them just as absorbent as Pampers. They are a bit bulkier, I presume because they don't have as much gel in which I think is a good thing. I hate it when I see the Pampers gel crystals on DS's bum when cleaning him, don't get this with the supermarket ones.

I find Pampers have more of a chemical smell too.

I've heard good things about Lidl nappies, but don't have one nearby.

I think it depends on the baby.

With DS, we tried Tesco and Sainsbury's own brand but he pooed a lot and his poo always exploded up his back so we gave up and went onto Pampers, thinking the extra cost was probably soaked up through less clothes washing.

He had quite big thighs and a fat bottom, too, for example he never fit in a bumbo at whatever age they are for.

DD, on the other hand, does less forceful poos and the own brand cheaper nappies are absolutely fine.

I am now considering going onto renewables for DD as I can actually imagine them fitting under her dresses etc. and not being too bad to launder now we have a tumble dryer (I know that's still not mega environmentally friendly but presumably better than I am doing now).

well its never going to work out cheaper than cloth nappies - at least for daytimes or while at home - go no, give it a try!

asda own are good. i find they are more absorbant than pampers. unfortunately it took me 12 months to figure that out. i was a brand snob.

The Asda own brand ones are fab.

I shudder to think how much money I wasted on Pampers for my PFB

I use washables during the day and a disposable at night.
Wash every 3-4 days and never have to use the tumble dryer.
After a rinse and fast spin they come out of the machine dampish and dry overnight on a clothes airer.
Ready to go again in the morning.

Highly recommend them, save a fortune and feel much better about not putting as many nappies into landfill

I used cloth nappies for my daughter, but used Tesco's own for other times, brilliant and very reasonably priced!

Lidl's were recommended on a thread to me, and I am converted! Only start in size 3 though.

Agree that Huggies are shite.

We always use Sainburys own brand (not the cheapest though) Never had any "problems" with it ...

We used Asda's own brand Little Angels on DD1, 2 and now on DD3 (18wks) for day and night and find them brilliant.

im using asda smart price at the moment, i think you can only get them in junior sizes perfect for bedtime only though...

Just to add - I really like Morrisons own and they also seem to fit DD really well. We always, always use Pampers at night though, nothing else works for us. So you could always gave "day" and "night" nappies. We didn't like the Aldi ones as DD seemed to get rashy, but like others say, just experiment!

Lidl's have my vote too. Better than the premium brands imho

Another vote for Sainsburys brand here. We've used them with DS2 & DS3. No problems, and Sainsburys regularly puts them 1/3 off as well, so we stock up then.

I use whatever is on offer! Not particularly fond of Boots own brand but things change all the time.

FWIW I just wanted to say that I REALLY wanted to use washables but because DD1 had bad reflux it meant that I couldn't cope with the amount of washing. I did buy a few washables later on but never used at night.

Sometimes the life gets in the way of really good plans and intentions! So don't feel pressured into subscribing to a technique that may not be suitable for you
