Yes...my DS is almost one and I'm still have a single bed pushed up to the side of his cot in his room. My DP is fab and has put no pressure on me to come back (although I know he thinks Im mad) I tried to go back in my own bed the other night, but soon jumped back in the single one when I heard a whimper!! I keep thinking "what if he kicks his covers off....(which he usually does) and he gets cold? or on my more paranoid days "what if he rolls on to his face or something etc etc and the list of excuses goes on....but I can't seem to tear myself away from him. How do I get back to normal?? help!

You just have to take a deep breath and go for it. If the covers come off, he will be fine. If he rolls onto his face, he's capable of rolling back over again.

You have to do it sometime - and if you leave it until he's really aware of it, it will be so much harder.

well when you worry about things, ask yourself what if

what if he kicks his covers off? if he's cold he'll wake up and you can go put them back on.
or you could put him in a grobag...

what if he rolls onto his face? he'll wake up and roll back again!

if he cries you will hear him in your room (using amonitor)...

what can you do better for him by being in his room?

Agree with WWB. Try a sleeping bag that sorts the covers situation, and at 1 year,he is quite capable of rolling over by himself - and probably does several times a night. Why don't you try having a monitor right by your bed on high - that way you hear every little squeak anyway. As WWB says if you don't move out soon he will get used to you being there and you will have a lot of difficulty getting away.
Presaumably he goes to bed a few hours before you? If he copes alone then he will be fine for the rest of the night. Its a natural worry for a mum so don't beat yourself up for caring so much!

I will...I will. I keep saying tomorrow, but I will....the other thing is also, its so much easier if he does cry to lump him over the side of the cot into the bed and carry on kipping, rather than get up (lazy cow) and poor DP.

Try it tonight - if you think about it too much, you'll find dozens of excuses not to do it tomorrow.

spongebob... do you really wanna be doing this when he is 5? or 6? or 10? (ok maybe not 10)

but seriously, if you get him into the habit of coming into your bed every time he cries he will never learn to sleep on his own, or to get himself back to sleep when he wakes.

spongebob...your dp must have the patience of a saint. Mine was grumbling about not being in his own bed about 4 days after ds was born!! (He's 1 on Sunday, where did the time go? )

It will only be harder on him the older he grows and it is in your baby's interset to have partents with a healthy adult relationship.

Give that man a medal!!

Im just the same but have made myself sleep in my own room. Get a sleeping bag if you are afriad of him kicking the covers off, but if he does kick them off if hes cold hell soon wake you up. At 1 yr he is old enough to move about the bed. My dd who is 1 sleeps on her belly with her bum in the air with her head jammed aginst the cot bars. No matter where I move her she always heads for the top. The one thing I have found a big help is a monitor with a movement pad. I still use it now and if no movement is detected a alarm will go off. Its helped me relax and not to keep checking on DD all the time as I know the alarm wouldve sounded if anything was wrong.
The first night will always be the worst but you need to move out before Ds becomes dependant on you being there

You may find that if you go and sleep,in your own room, you won't hear every little wimper and you might actually sleep better yourself. Also, your baby has to experience waking up in the night and going back to sleep by himself otherwise, he will become dependent on you and then the nightmare will begin.
