Second baby - trying to gear up for it!

On the verge of trying for DS/DD No 2 and feeling really fretful about it.

DS is 18 months and fantastic....he's really settled in to the world and I love him so much BUT hey what a journey!!!!

The thought of being pregnant again and the birth then the sleep deprivation and establishing a whole new routine. everyone says having the second is far worse that the first!

I'm really scared that DS will suffer for the next 2 years as I go from being really sick to really tired to really grumpy. All that said I'm hoping he'll gain a lifelong best friend and I know we'll look back in years to come and regret it if we don't have more.

Did anyone else feel the same as me? How was it? Any tips?

i do feel the same, actually. we're going to try too for a second one. i am dreading certain things, like being sick for 3 months, the birth and sleepless nights. but i am hopeful that we'll manage.

Hello girls i got pregnant with my second when my first little boy was about 19 months old and although no.2 was planned i was like you wary of how ds1 would cope how i would cope with 2 kids! and being tired and pregnant and chasing a 2 year old around plus i already knew i would need a c-section with subsequent babies so how would i cope with recovery and new baby AND 2 year old!!! ds2 is now 2 years old and im VERY pleased we had our second (another boy) as there is exactly 2.5 years between them so they are now 4.5 and 2 and they are BEST friends they play all day together and they even share a room in bunk beds and i found the oldest had climbed down from his bed last night and had crawled into bed with ds2 and fell asleep cuddling each other!!!! it was soo sweet, if im honest it was a little difficult for the first 6 - 8 weeks as i was determined to breastfeed succesfully and ds1 did rebel against the whole baby thing for a while but he very quickly came round and we have had great fun ever since were now waiting for baby no.3 due in september!!!! so there will be 2.5 years between ds2 and d?3 aswell!! its great fun! - but i have been told im bonkers by my sister once or twice for even considering 3! too late now!! hee hee hee xxx

Pregnancy was harder the second time around, everything else - the birth and beyond, has been much much easier in my experience.

Your story brought tears to my eyes AnotherHelen. I really hope that I can bring my children up to like each other as well as love each other. Don't know many adult siblings that get on brilliantly.

don't leave it too long would be my advice. We've been trying for over a year for number 2 (got pregnant straightaway with no1)

am thinking bout it too. If dh gets new job in london then will stick with one ds - if he gets job in leeds will try for no2. not telling him this in case it sways him either way.
