Aplogies, have already posted in pre-school, but had no takers so though I would widen the net

Argh, I am slightly at myself for asking this, having worked in early years myself, but do you have any tips for asking how your children are doing in pre-school?

DS (2.5) has settled in very well, but I feel like I want to know how he is doing and what 'sort of boy' he is there iyswim.

The staff are fantastic with the children, but lack confidence when speaking to parents and I don't want to seem too pushy, especially after being on the other side of it

I suppose I am looking for more than a 'fine, good session' comment in the early days, I would have expected this after a good settling in period, not in his first few sessions. It is not a case of time either as it is relatively quiet and always someone available.

Or maybe I should just back off!

Any advice gratefully received

Why not ask them some specific questions?

Ah yes, the direct approach, the houseofmirth.

I suppose I should just think of what I want to know and ask, but it is more about getting a feeling of how he is rather what he is doing iykwim? May just have to go for it.

If they're not great communicators with adults then maybe asking a few specific questions might at least break the ice?

I used to go into KG occasionally to help out - they liked an extra pair of hands to mix paints, read stories, tidy up etc and it gave me a chance to observe mine a bit. They didn't want to have anything to do with me while I was there, but I could see what they were up to. Would your preschool be open to something like that?

thehouseofmirth, you are right. I will just ask them outright if they continue to be reluctant to tell me.

Fernie, was speaking to DH about going in to help occasionally this evening! Great minds..

Thanks to you both for taking the time to respond.
