Hi,

I have suspicions about my teen dd. Don't eally know why except sleeping all day, moody, etc. Prob all normal teen behaviour, call it a gut instinct.

Can i get her tested in some way?

Don't think you can get her tested.

Have you noticed anything more specific -smelling of smoke, sealy bags/rizlas/bits of roach card left around, rolling tobacco or cigarettes with the tobacco taken out, unusual hunger at odd times?

liahgen · 13/08/2009 13:37

none of the above except for odd hunger at odd times and no hunger at normal meal times.

She's been caught smoking a few times. Like I said, just a gut feeling. Don't know where to go from here really.

Maybe I'm just feeling paranoid.

Thanks forresponse though. Have you been through it?

Lots of teens will experiment. Why don't you just ask her?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 13/08/2009 13:41

You can buy home testing kits online for less than £15, but you really need to talk to her about this first. You could be way off the mark, teenagers do sleep at odd hours.

(Well, some of them do. )

Liahgen, just talk to her, it would seem a bit extreme to do some kind of drug testing on her, though I can understand if you are worried.

notnowbernard · 13/08/2009 14:06

Testing a bit extreme, I agree

How old is she?

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/08/2009 14:07

Isn't a strange sleeping and eating pattern normal in teenagers. I know I could have slept all day and night when I was a teen, then eaten the house one day and not bothered with any food for a couple of days after.

My dd is 13 and she sleeps in for as long as she can, she doesn't stay up particluarly late either. She is just like a cat, can sleep anywhere and at any time.

I think moods are par for the course as well, dd has a lovely sunny disposition, however she does get stroppy for no discernible reason and has rotten PMT.

Unless you have real grounds for suspecting her (i.e. you know her friends do weed, you have suspicions about where she goes of an evening, you can smell it on her hair, rizlas and other crap have been found) I would not jump to conclusions.

Have you asked her whether she has ever smoked weed?

AccioPinotGrigio · 13/08/2009 14:27

Sounds like normal teen behaviour to me and not necessarily weed related. I smoked weed as a teen but my sister didn't yet there was no difference in our ability or desire to stay in bed all day.

Think about how you would feel.... I would much rather my parents asked me the question, and gave me the opportunity to be honest than tested me in secret and then accused me - I doubt that will do much for your relationship....

If you ask her and she says "no" and you still have concerns.. then maybe think about a test. But think before you do it, what will you do with the answer?

DD is 16 months btw, so am not speaking from parental experience!!

liahgen · 13/08/2009 23:01

Asked her and she said no ad I believe her so that's ok . Said she tried it in March, didn't get it so hasn't bothered.

Thanks all, just having a paranoid moment. She's had lots sleep overs, tv on late into night so understandably is just knackered. She's just a normal teen really, don't know why I got all worried there.
