sleeping in basinet part of buggy

My 4 week old is going to stay with my parents for a night, are they able to sleep in the basinet (not sure how to spell that!) part of the buggy over night, bearing in mind he wakes every 3 hours, is it safe for them? Or is this a big no no?!

Yes, I know lots of people who've done this. It's just like a moses basket really. And in days gone by, babies slept in drawers lined with blankets.

the word you're lookign for is 'carrycot'

which pushchair is it?

some have a mattress and ventilation system specifically designed for overnight sleeping and are fine, indeed ideal

otehrs, particularly those with squashy unstructured carrycots, aren't safe as the baby could overheat or get stuck

The only carrycot recommended for overnight sleeping is the Windoo, for the Loola pushchair.

tbh a laundry basket or a drawer is safer as it's not squishy.

Most structured carrycots are suitable for overnight sleeping but some you do need an extra matress for.

My youngest loved sleeping in her carrycot in fact we ditched the moses basket because she wouldn't sleep in there at all. We had a britax pram and the carry cot bit was a structured one with ventilation holes you could open and shut. When we made that decision we bought a proper mattress for the carrycot and carried on from there. I'm sure for one night it won't matter.

I remember a time when my eldest was under one he had to sleep in the three wheeled buggy laid virtually flat because we visited my father didn't realise quite how ill he was and ended up staying over night unexpectedly. He was probably a lot less comfortable than in his cot given i put the straps on but sometimes needs must.

my littlies sleep in something like that until too big anyway.

tbh DD slept in her carrycot for about a month when she was a baby - she couldn't settle in her moses basket (what a waste of money that was), and the same with her cot. So I think it will be fine for one night.

The thing is there is so much different advice out there, I have been told in JL that the ONLY one suitable for overnight was bugaboo. I had a bebecar before and could use it overnight with a proper ventilated matress added.

I'm fairly certain that the bugaboo can be used for occasional overnight sleeping with their aerosleep mattress.

maybe occasional, but the carrycot itself isn't vented and as such will not pass safety standards for overnight sleeping.

My DS (now 5) slept in the carrycot part of his M&P MPX travel system for about a month. He slept so well in it that we then transferred the Carrycot into his bedroom cot before he moved into the bedroom cot. DD slept in same carrycot for about 2 months and again slept really well in it (when she wasn't sleeping in bed with me . The Carrycot's ventilated on that particular version.
