How do you teach them respect for things?

Just that. By things I mean books, toys, clothes, my things etc rather than other people or values

Just by repetition of asking them to do so i guess.As mine got older it occured naturally - as they developed intrests the thing linked to that intrest became important to them ,such as tennis bat,riding hat became it may be time as well as repetition?

don't give them a lot of stuff - they respect what they have - and when its broken hard shit

we don't give them much. We can't afford to which is why I get upset when they don't look after what they have. We have books that survived mine and my brothers childhoods but get trashed as soon as they get them. ds2 is now banned from touching books without an adult which is sad

The eldest two are 6 and 4
