Time to move DS to a big bed?

DS is 18 months, and I am 20 weeks pregnant with DC2.

DS has also in the last couple of months learned how to escape from his cot.

Help me with my dilemmas!

a) Is 18 months too early to move to a big bed?

b) Is now the best time to move him considering upheaval in circumstances come November.

c) Do I need to bother with a toddler bed, or will a normal single bed do just fine?

d) How should I go about the whole moving to a bigger bed thing, especially as DS will share a room with DC 2 (ideally in DS's old cot) in about 9-12 months time.

All suggestions greatly appreciated!!

A)not too early
B)would do it now if you are going to need the cot in November
C)Go straight for a single bed.
D)go to buy a new duvet cover and stuff, make it exciting, start with naps see how he gets on.

I think you will find he will take to it really well. Good Luck

I'd say go for a full size bed but put a bed guard on so he won't fall out! You can get soft/portable ones that you can also take on holiday so they are dual purpose.

In our experience we had a 2 year gap. Like you I was keen to move DD well before new baby arrived.

It didn't go well! She was very attched to her cot (although she hadn't tried to climb out - so we didn't have that issue)

We tried again (although admittedly we didn't try particularly hard) when DD2 was 4 months (and out growing her crib) and it failed again. We ended up buying a cot for DD2 on ebay

DD1 is now 3.4 and still firmly attached to the cot. Still doesn't climb out but at the end of the day sleeps for 13 hours a night so I'm not planning to rock the boat!
