The great fridge question

I was just wondering what rules you all have in regards to the kids taking stuff from the fridge.

I was no real opinion so far as DD1 has only just started to take food from the fridge...

Thanks.

Mine can help themselves freely to water, milk, toast, or fruit.

Anything else, ask first.

I'm a bit controlling, though - I hate heading off to make up a topping for something and finding DH has scarfed all the cheddar, so I'm pre-emptively making sure DDs don't exacerbate the problem.

They generally have to ask though thinking of relaxing it a bit for dd (8). Thing is, water they can get from the tap in our house. With food, I want them to eat what I put in front of them at the dinner table(relatively healthy food, more chance of eating veg if they're hungry; social side of eating, etc). I guess when they hit 13 or so, they'll help themselves...I don't know.. interesting one
