Am I giving toddler DS too much fruit?

He will typically have half a banana or some raisins for a snack, dessert will be something like blueberries (10, maybe) and a satsuma or a slice or two of melon or something (2 portions, anyway).

If we've got something really nice like raspberries or strawberries, he might have some of those as an afternoon snack, too.

I ask because his pooey nappies are still quite soft - not really shaped poos very often - so wondered if we were basically giving him the runs with so much fruit. He's 23 months, by the way.

TIA and apologies for TMI

Unless they are v smelly or very runny I wouldnt be too bothered so long as he eates well and drinks often his diet sounds great.

I dunno the answer. My dd is 26 months now and has never really done what I call a solid poo. And she loves her fruit too.

My dd is 23 months and has never done a solid poo either (don't you just love the way there's no shame in discussing poo's once you've got kids ).

One think I would say is that I read a peice at work that said that fruit should be eated before a main meal, not after, because the nutrients are better absorbed into the system.

Have had a quick google and can't find anything though, so maybe someone more knowledgable can confirm that?

I dont think its harmful -poo is just waste isnt it and if you are well hydrated and eating a healthy diet then poo really isnt a worry.

Certain foods do bind stools though i think bananas are one of them.

BTW was it only me who got a huge scare at the first sight of a rehdrated raisin in ds nappy?

No nick, I've had those before. And grapes. And sweetcorn obviously.

DD1's poos were never that sloppy. She had what I call normal sausage shaped solid poos right from when she first weaned. She ate shed loads of fruit - nothing else sometimes.

Thanks for comparing notes! And yes, I'm still shocked by the conversations that no longer shock me...

nickschick - about your first post. They're not runny as such (they stay in the nappy IYSWIM [boak]) but they do honk. Is there a weird smell or something to watch out for?

My ds3 has a dairy intolerance and his poo stank to high heaven vvv offensive slimy and odd in colour and consistency.

goodness, my dd1 eats far more fruit than that. Her poos are soft - occasionaly if she hasn't drunk enough water they get hard and rabbit pellet-like - then I worry.

Supposedly the sign of a healthy poo is for it to be quite soft.

Bananas are good for firming things up though as I had to ban them in teh early days or she would struggle!
