What do I need to buy for my second baby?

I've got loads of old stuff in the attic from the first.

So far I've thought of:

- nappy changing mat
- nappies

What else do I need?! I've forgotten everything.

misdee Mon 09-May-05 17:17:18

new bottles if planning to bottle feed.

MarsLady Mon 09-May-05 17:17:50

a lot less than I bought the first. lol

(Is it ok to post that Beety?)

morningpaper Mon 09-May-05 17:18:26

Breastfed the first and hoping to do that again.

(Better get a stash of breastpads I suppose then? Also I wonder if the rubber bits on my old breast pump will have survived two years in the attic?)

When I went in to have my second child I hardly bought anything. Just packed what neutral colour clothes I already had and like you say tiny nappies, cotton wool for topping and tailing. Think the most I took in was for me.

morningpaper Mon 09-May-05 17:20:01

Cotton wool

What was that FOR again?

Topping and tailing - that's washing the baby's face and hands right? Do I need those for it's bottom or can I use wipes from the beginning??

OH DEAR GOD I really have forgotten everything!

ninah Mon 09-May-05 17:20:20

when are you due, morningpaper? I'm having a 2nd, too (December)
Depends on gender as well, if same as ds/dd1 - nothing! otherwise .. clothes ..
durr, formula (... just being provocative!) .. maybe some new feeding equipment if that needs updating, depends how old your first child is
Gosh, my mind's a blank too. I might get a proper pram as ds's is a disgrace and there's a nice 2nd hand one going

SPARKLER1 Mon 09-May-05 17:21:57

I remember the nurses in hospital telling me that wet wipes are a bit harsh on a new born babies skin (load of rubbish in my opinion) so I top and tailed in hospital and then as soon as I got home the wet wipes came out

ninah Mon 09-May-05 17:22:08

posting so slowly today
I have still got those lists from pregnancy mags from ds1, I'll have a look tonight
I don't think we need much, really! seems mad after the buying frenzy of pregnancy one!

bonym Mon 09-May-05 17:22:44

Baby wipes
Nappy sacks (or cassettes for sangenic if you've got one)
dummies (just in case...)
breast pads for you if planning to breastfeed

I'm sure I'll think of more in a minute

SPARKLER1 Mon 09-May-05 17:22:50

Topping and Tailing is watching face and hands and bottom and bits. Had a top and tail bowl to keep each seperate.

misdee Mon 09-May-05 17:23:25

neew pram if u want one lol.

new breastpads and feeding bras.

morningpaper Mon 09-May-05 17:23:51

I'm due in October so I've got some time.

I've got a new pram under my bed that someone gave me a while back - although I might actually need a double one - my daughter will be just turned 3.

I assume I can use the old cot mattress?

lima Mon 09-May-05 17:23:58

I had to get new prom blankets as ds1 commandeered the original ones as 'blankies'

lima Mon 09-May-05 17:24:17

prAm blankets lol

morningpaper Mon 09-May-05 17:25:11

Oh yes the sangenic bin - forgot about that. Must get some new casettes in.

I've got no ROOM for all this extra crap! I might need to get some CUPBOARDS too...

Tommy Mon 09-May-05 17:26:04

I had to buy a new breast pump as the old just broke as I was fitting it together! I'd bought it new for DS1 (20 months earlier) but it had been used by someone else in between. I also had to buy a couple of blankets and some short-sleeved baby gros and stuff as they had the audacity to be born in different seasons!

dinosaur Mon 09-May-05 17:27:08

We found our sangenic bin a complete waste of time. Even the second-hand baby things shop in Hackney wouldn't take it, so we just threw it away!

bonym Mon 09-May-05 17:27:10

I think old mattress should be fine depending on how it's been stored. When I got mine out of the loft there were mould spots on it so I had to throw it out (mind you it was 7 years old )

bonym Mon 09-May-05 17:27:53

I love my sangenic [ smile]

Tinker Mon 09-May-05 17:28:11

8 year gap between my daughter an this one (due tomorrow ) so have bought new mattress for Moses basket and will for cot - eventually. Had to buy new car seat (sold last one) And new blanket because 8 year old still uses hers. Otherwise, pads for me, nappies for baby - have been given virtually everything else or still have it.

Would borrow as much as you can

morningpaper Mon 09-May-05 17:28:17

Ooh I loved my sangenic bin the first time - used it the awful nuclear-waste type poo died down and then I braved washable nappies.

bonym Mon 09-May-05 17:29:27

Oh - I also bought grobags as I didn't use them for dd1 - I think they're fab.

blueteddy Mon 09-May-05 17:35:14

I bought a new highchair because my first one had had its day!
I also bought a new fold up buggy, because ds1's one was about to collapse after 3 years of use!
I bought some new outfits for ds2 because he was born in a different season to ds1.
