hiya,

we are always in awe on holiday seeing people with tiny suitcases at the airport! we have no idea how they do it and could do with some help please as i am adamant to pack light this time as its our first holiday as family of 4!

if you are a light packer, please help suggest quantities of clothes etc for us all!

our 3 yr old will need pull ups for nights and 7 month old will need nappies, formula and some baby food so a big chunk of weight will be taken up by those things!

thanks!

p.s. would rather not buy nappies, baby food etc out there, but i guess we could pick up some at the airport (stansted, anyone know if boots there well stocked?)..

Why not buy nappies out there? Seems silly to lug them, if they are readily available (pampers are an international brand)
Re packing - for you and dp/dh make sure every 'bottom' can be won with at least two tops. I am a light packer and still come back with stuff never worn! Lay out your clothes and half them is the general rule.
For the kids it is harder because they will get dirty/sticky and will need far more than you do (unless there are reasonable laundry facilities available)
Be ruthless - do you REALLY need it? Will you REALLY wear it? Roll clothes (get more in a bag and they don't crease as much).

thanks, good tips! laundry will be in the resort so will cost per item to be cleaned!

we bought pampers for dc1 when we were in mauritius when he was 18 months and tbh they were sooo bad quality and leaked everywhere and cost £10 for pack of 15!! if anyone knows otherwise for greece (crete) let me know! x

Yes, we have pampers here, yes they are more expensive than UK, but not that expensive! Loads of other brands too, I use Lidl ones or Carrefour own brand. Same for pull-ups. Just pack enough mappies for a couple of days and buy the rest here. Also you can buy baby food here. HTH

Definitely pack clothes that go with all/most other items in your suitcase and a couple of pairs of 'go with anything' shoes. Accessories can dress-up a look too rather than packing casual and smart stuff.

Layout your outfits before packing so you know what you're likely to wear each day and therefore if you're taking way too much stuff.

I find that toiletries take up loads of weight so I try to co-ordinate with DH so we share 2-in-1 shampoo and unisex shower gel. Maybe save a half empty bottle to take with you rather than a heavy full one, buy travel sized ones or use the stuff in the hotel and buy when you get there?

Can you wash kids stuff in the shower and put on the veranda/balcony to dry?

Have a lovely holiday, sounds fab.

Oh just thought - go in lush and buy solid shampoo - works as soap, shampoo and can shave with it... multi purpose! For me it is always about comfort, pack the stuff you KNOW you will wear and you'll be fine! Take some travel wash and if the kids stuff isn't too bad you can do a quick dunk and stick it in the sun to dry..
