trunk.......get newspaper and a pair of tights (thin ones are easiest to tie). Stuff one leg with scrunched up newspaper until you have a trunk (tail the same way and safety pin onto her trousers/skirt/t-shirt). Tie it on around the forehead using the other leg. You could paint some paper the same colour and just staple or sellotape the ears on. It won't be strong but it will be easy, quick and effective.

Cheap, thin tights from your local supermarket in grey would be good then you can use as many legs as you want to get the right depth of colour but still have them thin so they are easy to tie.

Oooh that doesn't make sense!!!!

The trunk should be tied onto her forehead. The tail should be pinned on her clothes.

DS has an elephant costume which was made for the school show.
It consists of:
card cuffs and gaiters painted grey with white arches for the toes
large piece of card painted grey with a hole in the middle so that his head can go through and it rests on his shoulders. Card tail added to the back
card headband with a card trunk stapled to the middle so that it hangs down over his nose and ears stapled to the side.
They used really good quality card and it still looks good 2 yrs on.
