Dd up all night with temperature.

I am currently very very frequent visitor to toilet, coming out both ends

Dd screaming for attention downstairs, I am otherwise engaged upstairs Can't even clean up properly as she is so vocal.

Don't what to do, feel like shite............she is ill too. How do other people cope?

all go to bed and put tv on in there?

The eternal question...

If there is absolutely nobody who can come and relieve you for a few hours, then I say both get on the sofa with the duvet and CBeebies / a DVD on for her while you try to get some sleep (in between toilet trips).

I know of no other way!

Paracetemol for dd's temp
Plenty of water for you and no food stuff till the squirts stop
Quilt on the sofa, and snuggle up
Hope you feel better soon

Ds(2.3) and i were both ill this week, we just lounged all day.

I'm lucky that when ds is ill he just sleeps, but I agree, tv+duvet+calpol. If she has to cry for a couple of minutes while you are on the loo it wont kill her.

Report
onepieceoflollipop · 24/10/2008 11:39

Oh fizzbuzz you poor things. Set up a bed nearest your loo. (sofa if your loo is downstairs), bed if upstairs. Definitely get the tv on for her. Grab as many quick easy snacks as you can in a bag/box for her. Don't worry about regular meals. Just wash your hands before giving her a snack.

If you can't clean up properly then focus on scrubbing your hands and keep the loo handle and tap handles very clean. Change the towel loads or dry hands on kitchen roll. (use disposable wipes for cleaning if necessary)

Cbeebies and nightime calpol.

Sycamoretree · 24/10/2008 11:57

Bed in your room, if you have tv and dvd in there. cbeebies. Lots of stuff your DD likes to eat for treats.

Will she stay in bed though? My DD (3) still won't stay in bed or on sofa when ill.

Report
fizzbuzz · 24/10/2008 12:09

She has had calpol, and seems to be reviving and tantrummung...all at my expense

Dd will not stay in bed at best of time, and unlike ds, will not go quiet and limp when ill, but instead becomes demanding and awkward.

Have instructed dp to come home as have legs like water, and she is insisting on going outside

good for you. it's impossible! I really totally sympathise.

when my dh is ill i am very careful to let him sleep all day and try to get out of the house with dd's as much as poss. When I am ill I have to make sure I am really actually considering whether I might be dying or not before I can get anyone to come and help me

sorry, strop over!

get something really tantalising out like old makeup, let her go mad with it while you lie on the sofa waiting for your saviour

It's awful, just hideous, I really feel for you. Last time I thought I was going to go out of my mind. I managed with the sofa/duvet/telly & DVDs for some of it, but also had to call DP home from work at its worst (I had flu). If I hadn't had DP, I think I would have paid an emergency nanny or something. Is that a possibility?

Sorry I see you are getting your DP home. Get well soon!

I am a single parent and last winter had pneumonia and bronchitus while my son (then 4) had vomitting and diahorria. There was noone to help me, my parents were ill, my brothers are totally selfish and I was too ill to even think of asking friends.

I barely coped, but took codeine to help with my bronchitus and slept when he was asleep.

I have a plan though that should that situation ever happen again - even without him being ill, just me being incapacitated I would call an emergency live in nanny. I have saved (since that incident £50 a month into a savings account and now have £600 in it) which I would use for that purpose.

I also ordered all foods and toilettries to be delivered from tesco and didn't leave the house for 2 weeks. His vomitting bug only lasted four days so after that I had to get him to school but that was a relief because I booked him into after school club for the week and then went back to bed after I'd dropped him. It was a horrendeus time and the worst period of my life.

I once had winter vomiting virus, a 14 month old with winter vomiting virus and a 3 week old breast fed baby(who was fine). We didn't cope but no-one died. whatever happens it will be over soon, but try and get someone to bring airbeds so that you can lie down wherever LO wants to be.

I remember the horrible christmas day we had (DS opened his presents in between vomiting in a bucket, DD didn't manage much, those who could eat did so on their own at the kitchen table between mop ups and suprise it was mum and gran who had to fing the emergency chemist thank goodness it was the big boots store so stocked up on nappies, pull ups (for DS who was far to big for them but felt better with them on and held in skoots better), anti bac spray, hand wash, baby wipes etc etc etc.

Hope you feel better soon fizzbuzz its a nightmare ,I remember having strep throat and dp had just started a new job so really couldn't get a day off ,I was looking after a new baby and 4 dc during the six week holidays ,DD threw a tantrum on chemist I had to walk home and i can remember just crying and crying with the pain and tiredness .
I can also remember ranting at dp that if he was as ill as me he would have been signed off with a sicknote and in bed I also threatened to go and get a sicknote from GP .

Alas, when ill dd does not curl up under a duvet. She demands, and whines, and cries, but will not go to sleep..........ds would sleep all day when ill at her age

Poor dear, what a nightmare.
I also have DCs that don't revert to type when ill and when they are feeling fine when I'm sick.........sheeesh!
Worse thing when I'm sick is that I can't fob them off with DVDs or TV because they just argue incessantly about what they want to watch. Even installing a seperate TV and DVD player in DDs room didn't work because she either whinged that she was 'lonely' in her room, or complained that her brother was annoying her......aaaarrggghhhh!
The temptation to make them both drink an entire bottle of Medised is strong.......

Hope you feel better soon.
