Might be moving, should I change the kids schools?

I might be moving house soon and I'm wondering whether or not to change the kids schools if we do or whether that would not be fair on them.

DS1 is in year 5, by time we move he'll be getting on for year 6...would it be unfair to move him in his last year? (he wants to move).

DS2 is currently in year 3 so he still has another 3 years left at school, 4 including the rest of this one...I think it would be fairer to move him to the local school?

To throw a spanner in the works...the local schools to where we're moving are really, really good...one of them is supposed to be the best primary school in the city. But they both enjoy the school they're at.

It would be a bus ride getting them to their old school everyday, new school is 5 minutes away.

Would they be going to the same secondary regardless?

If not it might be better for DS1 to get to know peeople in 'small school' to move up to 'big school' with, iyswim.

Arggh the guilt. Whats the right thing to do? I was in the same position and changed both childrens schools. My daughter now year 7 is getting on fabulously however my son year 3, the sensitive type crying everyday.
Its so difficult to know what is the right decision. Do try and think of you as well. Driving or getting them to your old schools will be difficult, they wont make friends locally and friends that will go to your local secondary. This is important. My daughter didnt know a single person and has thrived on that, my son not so, but it is only 3 weeks into term, watch this space. Im sure you will make the right decision that suits all your needs. Whatever you do you will wonder if you made the right move. Good luck.
