I would love to take DS to London overnight with Hubby aroudn December. Have been on trainline and cheapest return tickets are £83. We dont pay for an under 5 do we???
I dont think that is cheap do you? People are always telling me about £14 return tickets!!!

I can go any time in December for one night travelling from Grantham or Newark to KingsX

Thgere's usually a link that say '2 singles may be cheaper' so look at that, or mayve it's that the offers areen't available until closer to the date

Children under 5 go free, have you tried the national express website? They give you a 10% discount for booking online

I can say though (work in the industry) that the cheaper tickets are 'subject to availability' which in plain english means who ever is quickest gets them first and they do tend to get booked up fairly rapidly (like 6 weeks in advance). And you have to be fairly knowledgeable to navigate the sites to get to the cheaper deals. As DWP has pointed out the '2 singles may be cheaper option'is quite well hidden.

OOh dont get me started on train tickets to London.

You'd think they were charging you for round the world tickets or a rocket trip to the moon.
The prices are outrageous.

But, dh and I went to London last month and after despairing over the price of train tickets we decided to go with MegaBus.
It cost us £20 for return tickets. Thats for both me and dh, not each.

We went from South Yorkshire and it took exactly 4 hours to get there.
The coaches were really clean, comfy seats and friendly drivers.

If we ever go back, we will definately go with them.

Phd, you won't get cheaper tickets now for a journey tomorrow, the bookings close 24 hours before.

Try this site. Unfortunately I can't do it for you, because you need your cc details to secure the booking.

Be aware that there are internet availabilitys and a seperate allocation for stations, so you might have better luck going to your local station and getting them to book it for you.

On national express I have found it for £70 for 2 adults, 1 child.

She doesn't pay for the child, he's under 5. Don't give ém money when you don't have to.

Just realised that.

Make it £64 then

Cheap train tickets are released so many weeks in advance -some of the December ones may not have been released yet. When i recently tried to buy returns to london i could get cheap ones down but not return as they weren't available yet!

Might be worth contacting the train companies direct to check when tickets are available?

Natioanl Express East Coast have only released tickets up to Fri 28 November, so you're too early. If you sign up on their website they will email you once the cheap tickets are released for your dates. I've looked at travelling peak time Fri 21 November returning on the Sunday and the tickets are about £45 return for the 3 of you.

I managed to get some early December info (£64 was Dec 1st). They might still release more though.

Odd. They def haven't released anything for Newcastle yet. Front page is still saying 28th Nov so I still think you'll get a better deal waiting.

Right, I checked at work for you yesterday and they haven't released the December allocation yet, I will check once a week and let you know when they are released.

Phd, for future tickets, we tend to find that our allocations at the stations get booked up about 6 weeks in advance especially for fridays, they do keep some back for internet only bookings, so it's always worth looking on the web AND checking at a ticket office.
