and how he we really weren't getting along been going on for MONTHS (long before H and I split up) - he started Junior school today and it's been like a bloody revelation since he came home.

I've told him off - he's said sorry straight away and not gone into a major strop at all

He knocked something over in the kitchen I called through and asked what had happened - instead of saying nothing and getting arsey with me and saying "nothing" - he's explained exactly what happened.

He's been doing things using his initiative instead of having to be told every little thing.

It's quite incredible - like a totally different boy!!

I know this morning they spent the morning learning about how the school runs, the rules etc (they have 3 basic rules they have to remember - be kind, forgive and be honest - which kind of encompasses all of the nitty gritty rules really) and then this afternoon they were making up class rules and writing them down - but OMG I'm in shock - happy shock.

think I may "reward" him with getting some of his lego down after DS2 and 3 have gone to bed (he goes an hour later) and help him start sorting it into sets - it's currently all mixed up - 1000's of pieces lol)

oh we had such a lovely 45 minutes after DS2 and 3 had gone to bed - got the boxes of lego down and started sorting it all out - he was fantastic - and was really good this morning too - despite us all sleeping in and me being ultra shouty and stressed

Lets just hope it continues

Wondering if a family contract similar to the school rules thing would be useful to get into place now in case the glow dims a little?

Good idea Mat -

Can't believe I'm actually looking forward to going and picking him up from school - I've dreaded it for ages as I knew the minute he got home the nonsense would start but now I sort of feel that - yes it'll probably kick off - I've got 3 boys 7 and under - but it might actually be managable now

  • another good day - had one very minor "blip" around 5pm, he got a bit stroppy, I asked him where the DS1 from the last day and a half had gone and within 2/3 minutes he was out of it and we had a great rest of the night
