Please someone recommend a car seat to me - from mothercare

Hiya,

Apparently my daughter is only about a month away from needing a new car seat so I'm looking now.

I need it to be from the mothercare range as I have points saved up for it.

I was thinking of getting the birth to 4 years but that seemed silly - However the 9kg to (whatever) 11yrs looks uncomfortable.

Please help the hopeless. lol

Who has told you that she is only a month away from needing a new carseat?

She is only 7m right? Is she a big girl (height or weight)? DD3 was small enough to be in her baby seat until 26m.

If you do go for a new seat you need something that reclines well as she is so young. The 9m-4yr ones. Look for one that can reclien whilst fitted - they are an absoulte marvel and remember that they may cost £150+ but they will last 3+years.

We brought one of the 9m-11yr ones with DTDs and when they were still a baby/toddler it was a huge mistake. A child that young cannot go in a seat which doesn't recline as their head flops about as soon as they fall asleep.

She's nearly 9kg and apparently the ones who that come with the prams (trael systems) only take her to 9kg - she's 8.63 now. lol

Thanks for the advice. That's what I thought when I saw the till 11yrs one.

I've seen one of the birth to 4yrs in mothercare for £70 which was very but I can understand it if it'll last a couple of years which it should at least.
The 9mo to 4yrs are more expensive.

The Graco autobaby which is a travel system one goes up to 12kg (or maybe 15kg).

Which model do you have?

It really is safer to stay rear facing for as long as possible.

Also when you go to teh next stage you must get them fitted by professionals as they tend to be a bit more problematic wrt buckle crunch and stuff.

If it's the Autobaby, then the seat is suitable to 29lbs weight or 13kg

this one and you're right it does go to 13kg.

Isn't it best to get the new one? She's getting pretty upset in her baby one now so was kinda relieved when they said it was time for a new one cos i thought forward facing might make her happier.

SHe's only considered to be outgrowing it when her head is at the top of the seat

No- keep her rear facing till she grows out of it, not because she seem sunhappy. she is much safer rear facing

Is there anything I can get her to make her happier then? I think its cos she can't really see anything. She seems ok if she's got a toy or something but once she throws it out I'm buggared.

TBH I would wait until she is bigger.

It really is significantly safer for her to be rear facing. At the end of the day though it is your choice.

If you go for one that doesn't recline (much) you need to be sure that she can support her weight for long periods when sitting.

Maxi Cosi Priori reclines in situ, should you absolutely decide to get a forward facing one, you will need a baby insert, I think

But I agree that she does not necessarily need one at this age, rear facing is much better

How about one of these and this fun centre or Taff toys

Those 2 that she kicks looks good but I think she may get annoyed at the fact that she can't reach them....

I'll see if they're in mothercare and use my points on that instead.

Thanks
