My poor DD has tonsillitis - 6.5months old.

Hello. I feel so guilty as my DD has been miserable the last few days, but we could feel her first tooth coming through so put it down to that and the heat. Ended up taking her to hosital at 2am this morning with a temperature of nearly 105, which didnt go down with calpol, naked baby, windows open etc.

Turns out, she has tonsillitis. I feel so sorry for her, I have had it a few times and it is so painful.

I wish I had asked a few more questions last night, but I just wanted to go home to bed!

• Shall we stay at home for a few days?
• What should I be feeding her, she is prefering cool stuff, and I have just givn her cool pureed fruit for breakfast, which she seemed ok with...What else can I give her, ther than this and yogurt? She will not do lumps or hot food at the moment.

-Anything else I can do to help her?

I have just got her a doctors appointment, as several people (including a nurse) are very suprised that I have not been given antibiotics for her. Thats not till 6pm though.

Anybody around to help? Would like some advise if anybody is around?

did they not give her antib's? Probably because the pharamacy was shut but they should have given you a couple of doses worth. It isn't contagious, my dd2 used to suffer from it a lot when she was a baby - seems to have grown out of it now.

Just give her lots of hugs and milk whenever she needs it (or fluids if you can). As long as she's having wet nappies, she'll be fine.

I get strep a lot, I think it is generally recommended to try to let it run its course before giving antibiotics, apparently they don't do much and can make it more like to come back.

Just stay at home with her and give her as much fluids as she will take.

When I get it, I just want to mooch around watching telly and drinking water so I bet she just wants to doze and drink.

Poor bubba, it does hurt like a bitch!

Thanks MrsR. Apparently it depends whether it is viral or bactirial as to if it is infectious (have just been doing a bit of research!)

Your poor DD. My DS had tonsilitis at around that age - DP has had it a few times in the last year or so and they seemed to keep passing it to each other! DS would only eat yoghurt and nothing else but it only lasts for a few days so i would just give her whatever she wants and lots of water/milk. We were given antibiotics although like you say they only work if its bacterial rather than viral (I think thats the right way round!). And we gave calpol/neurofen to keep his temperature down.

We stayed at home for a couple of days in case we passed it on to other children, and to be honest DS didn't really feel like doing much anyway so he wouldn't have enjoyed going out.

Hope she feels better soon.

sheont sleep! she is so tired! We have just been for a walk where she fell asleep, just to wake every 2 mins and scream! Poor girl, she is obviously in a lot of pain!

DS has just had tonsilitis at the same age, we were given antibiotics for it and they helped immediately. Otherwise we alternated doses of calpol and ibuprofen and just kept things quiet for him. Also didn't give him solids for a few days but that was because he wasn't interested, only wanted small amounts of breastmilk.

The sleep thing was difficult for a while, just cuddled him and let him have lots of tiny naps, he didn't seem able to stay asleep for long

Awww poor baby ,I would just give cool water regulary ...hope she feels better soon I cried like a big baby when I had strep throat and I was 27 so I hate to imagine how she feels .
