Baby straining - any tips on how to relieve?

DD is nearly 6 weeks old, after every feeding she gets really uncomfortable and looks as if she is straining to poo. I'm fairly certain she isn't constipated as her poo is normal (if baby poo can ever be called normal!) and she poo's at least once a day normally. Its starting to wake her during the day naps and she seems torn between wanting more food and being almost in pain with her tummy. Any advice on how to help her?

Not sure, but tummy massage may help. If you have a reasonable HV, it may be good to chat with them for advice. All the best.

I think babies normally strain because their muscles aren't strong yet. Might look uncomfortable but usually they are just flexing their muscles. Is she crying with it?

Sort of grunting and a bit shouty with the strain, not so much crying...will give tummy massage a try!

Hi,

Is your baby mixed fed or exclusively BF?

My DS (5WO) is mixed and sometimes needs a little water to stop him doing this. I offer him water morning and evening and he drinks it if he wants / needs it and doesn't if not....

Could be wind also, I suppose, so more burping or massage might help too?
