what time is night time for babies?

I put DS 5 months down for a nap at 5pm. He’s still asleep now, almost 2 hours later. I’m wondering if this is him now in “bed time sleep mode” where he doesn’t wake til 7ish or if he’s still in “day time sleep mode” and will wake within an hour or so.

Is there a specific time that means if they’re asleep already at that time then they’re in bed time sleep mode?

My 6 month old goes down for the night between 7-7:30, as have my other 3. It’s what works for your family though x

Anything after 6 I would class as ‘bedtime mode’.

I have done 5pm bedtimes plenty where the nap has just worked out that way and mine have not woken properly for the day until morning. In future if a nap is due at 5 if I were you I would do bedtime routine x

@MsChatterbox thank you. I think my DS might be the same. I’ll see what time he wakes up. He usually sleeps for 12 hours or so if he’s awake at 5am tomorrow then I’ll do my best to keep him awake til 7pm next time he’s due a nap at 5.

Just to be clear, I’m not asking what time your DC go to bed but what time if you put them down for a nap are they liable to not wake up til the next day? Eg if you put them for a nap at 4pm would they wake an hour later but if you put them down at 5pm then they wake at 5am the next day.

Don't forget sometimes keeping them up too long can do more harm than good. If due at 5pm maybe try and push for a 6pm bedtime as 6am still reasonable! Then can push each nap time by 15 mins the next day to get back to normal bed time 🤞🏻

Mine have never considered a nap bedtime as they nap/napped in a buggy, and see bath/bottle/bedroom a signal for long sleep.

However, going by their body clocks I’d say anything after 5pm would be acceptable for them. Doesn’t matter how early you put them to bed, they always wake at the same time so you might be lucky!

Any sleep before 5pm my baby will wake after 30-45mins (like a nap) but sleeps through the night if put to bed at 6pm or after. Baby is 6.5 months

I put DS down at 7 and he sometimes wakes at 10pm. Other times he doesn’t wake until 4am. It’s usually around 2am for a feed.

Well he woke at 5am wide awake! Lucky for me it was DH who was looking after him last night Grin

I think in future I’ll try to keep him awake til 6 if he’s tired at 5
