Hello,

Our 6 month year old, has gone through a sleep regression. Over night he might sleep 3/4hrs at a time...but sometimes only 2 - most times he wants a feed and we obviously give me a change too; but sometimes he just wakes up and wants to play.

I've suggested to my wife, that maybe we should set times to wake and feed him so we're in control - rather than reacting to him, but she says this will make him think this is ok to do and he needs to get used to sleeping longer - our other boy, who is almost 2, he was sleeping 6+ hrs by this point.

I have to drive long distance so my wife is taking the brunt of this and its really taking it's toll on her.

Any suggests would be really appreciated.

Sorry to hear you’re having sleeping troubles. Babies like to keep up on our toes! I’m afraid to say this sounds pretty normal to me. Babies are supposed to wake frequently as a safety mechanism and their tummies are very small so they need to eat frequently. They also wake for different reasons, not just hunger – comfort, temperature, loud noises. You could take another look at their sleeping environment (are they too hot/cold; is there too much/too little light: etc.) but I wouldn’t make any drastic changes, as you’ll find that everything will change again soon. Repeat to yourself: everything is a phase. Everything is a phase.

Don't compare children.
Parent responsively rather than setting a schedule.

Sleep often gets worse as well as better, you were just lucky with DC 1
