DD turns 4 next week. She is in a front facing car seat. She was in a rear face exclusively to age 2. And then from 2 to 3.5 she was mainly rear facing but sometimes forward if we were going a short distance, or sometimes in grandparents cars.

Younger DD is 11 months so rear facing obviously

8&9so front facing

9yo has been FF since a year, RF toddlers wasnt even hinted at then. RF seats could only be purchased from specialist shops, I think there were only 2or3 in the country. It was something you read about.

8yo RF to 2.5years. She had one of the first easily purchased RF seats... The Joie Stages. She started screaming non stop in the car once her sister started school. Overall that seemed safer.

Dd is 4 and started front facing around 3. We had joie 360 which made it easier to do both. She rear faced on longer motorway journeys until 4. She now has a next stage high backed booster type seat.

Nearly 3yo is RF in both cars. 5.5 yo is RF in DH's car and FF in my car. She outgrew the RF seat in my car about 6 months ago whereas the one in DH'S goes up to 25kg. My car is small and mainly used for driving around our city whereas DH's is the big, comfortable car that we use for long journeys (so motorways) so we figured it was best to keep her RF seat in his car.

DS is 3 next month and front facing since about 18 months.

He is 99th percentile for height and weight though, we had to switch to a car seat that has a harness up until 25kg.

My 3 year old is FF and has since 18m wanted to RF longer but he gets car sick facing backwards. Like really car sick. Even short journey's

Mine are 5 and 8, forward facing.

8 year old due to reflux and car sickness rearfaced until 15 months as unsafe with screaming and piling baby on the motorway.
5 year old rearfaced until age 4 using Axkid Minikid which he never outgrew.

All front facing

5 and forward facing. She was RF until about 3 and a half, I wanted to keep her RF longer and the seat would technically allow it but she kept on getting severe pain in her knees during journeys so we had to switch it to FF.

14 months - rear facing

6 years - ff. Switched about 2 and a half

14mo and bought the Joie360 a couple of months ago so he could continue to be rear facing after his baby car seat. The rotate feature makes it much easier. Rear facing still doesn't seem so popular around where I live, and I've had a few comments from family and friends about it being strange/cruel/unfair for my toddler but I value safety more than their opinions.

5 yr old - just turned FF in Jan

3 yr old - RF and will be until he hits the limit on his seat.

Due no. 3 imminently and he/she will RF till at least 4 too like the others.

Wish I had bought 25kg RF seats but didn't know much about them at the time and unfortunately can't afford to replace the ones we use currently when there is nothing wrong with them. But pleased we have made it to 4 year old RF.

2.5 yo DD is rear facing and will be for as long as possible. We have the joie 360 spin seat. Will upgrade to a 25kg when she hits the weight limit for this.

4.5, front facing. Switched him from rear facing at about 3.5 due to weight although I was desperate to keep him rear facing until he was 4! He’s still in a 5 point harness but I need to weigh him to check that he’s still under the 25kg limit for that.

My six year old rear faced until five (almost six), my two year old will rear face until at least five too, hopefully longer. I used to work in car safety so I wouldn't dream of turning them forward facing before five as I know only too well the difference it can make. I have heard disparaging comments from those who think they know better but in this case I'm happy to be smug knowing that my children are safer than theirs. Trying to convince those who don't want to see is a regular losing battle in my life.

Dd1 21 - ff at 7 monthsShock (in NZ it was normal to ff from 6 months) feel awful now knowing what danger she was in.

Ds1 19 - ff at around 10 months, we were living in UK by then
Ds2 16 - ff at around 10 months
Ds3 almost 11 - rf until 8 at which point his younger sibblings were moving into hbb and we didn't want him to feel bad, as he wasn't big enough for one, so compromised on a ff harnessed seat. He went into a hbb about this time last year when he finally reached 15kg! I should point out that ds3 has a growth disorder and is about the size of a 5 year old.(wears 5-6 tops and 4-5 bottoms)

Dtwins 9yrs - ff from 6.5yrs when they out grew their mini kids.

DS just turned 4. We haven’t used the car much since Christmas (lockdown), but last time we did, we changed him to FF. Not sure about it yet.

My 2 year old is rf but will be at the limit of her seat probably at her 3rd birthday. I'm uncertain, if I'm really honest, about buying erf seat to 25kg but then that would mean she FF without a harness.

Report
peaches19 · 02/03/2021 08:43

Mine are 1.5 and 3.5, both RF. Expect they will be until at least 5 as we have a 25kg ERF seat.
