Sleeping through baby waking

DS is almost 7 months old. He sleeps fairly well. Last night, for example, he had a little moan at 5. I didn’t go in and he fell back to sleep on his own at 515 or so.

In the mornings he will wake but will chatter to himself, not cry. He usually gets up at 6 or so. This morning I woke up with a jolt at 830 as it was so late. He was just lying in his crib looking around, and squawked / cried when he saw me.

I feel really guilty that he’s been awake on his own - does it matter? Added problem is that we are still basing his schedule on awake cycles and I really have no idea when he woke up.

I realise it’s not the worst baby sleep problem you can have but has anyone had similar?

You are living the dream.

*awake Windows I should say.

We’ve done a bit of sleep training in the past (nothing drastic) and I guess I’m worried that he’s not crying because he doesn’t think we will go to him. Though in naps during the day he cries when he wakes up and we go straight in.

No it doesn’t matter. He’s seven months old- if he’d have wanted your attention he’d have got it! He was absolutely fine and for all you know had only just woken up. Relax with the schedule.

If he was distressed at being left he would cry. He didn't, so just relax

He might not be crying because he doesn’t think you’ll come, if you’ve done any sleep training that’s a possibility. He might just be chilling and not have needed you.

This is nonsense, do you get off on making people feel bad?

OP - Unless you consistently and severely neglecting him, he will not have "learnt not to cry because no one is coming".

Thanks everyone. He is generally a very happy chap, though it must be said a lot more whiny in the daytime over the past week or so. He had a two hour nap this morning which definitely wasn’t like him - maybe just needing more sleep! (Don’t we all...)

That sounds fantastic. I wish I could sleep through mine so much as rolling over! Youngest is nearly 3. We don’t have a monitor anymore and sleep with both doors shut and down the hall. I still wake to him flouncing about. If he really needed you, he’d shout and you’d hear it so I wouldn’t worry.
