High chair suitable for 4 month old

Just that really...
My DS is just over 4months and will be near enough 5months at Christmas. All being well we will be going to the in laws Christmas Day and my thinking is to take a high chair for him to sit in while we eat our dinner but I’ve just been looking and all the ones I’ve seen are 6months+
DS can hold his head up perfectly (Has been doing for a long time) and can sit sturdy with us holding him. He’s 18lb for the record and is nearly in 9-12m clothes so he’s a big lad.

He obviously won’t be eating Christmas dinner but it’s just somewhere off the floor and high up enough that the dogs won’t be sniffing round him and we can keep an eye on him.

Ideally want something that folds away as we don’t have space for the ikea one or I would get that.

As the legs come off the IKEA one it takes up less space than fold up ones.

Great suggestion from Aldi. I know it's baby's first Christmas and you are looking forward to it but that really would be the easiest way of dealing with it. Plus if he's in a high chair at the table and everyone else is eating, he may get upset if he's not offered anything, sone babies do.

Having said that, I had a Chicco folding high chair years ago and that was suitable from 4 months. It was a complete pain to clean and huge. Really, really wished we'd had the IKEA one instead.

We aren’t eating till around 2 and he doesn’t really have a solid sleep pattern yet he just sleeps when he wants, which works for us as he sleeps through so I can’t guarantee he’s going to be asleep at that time

We used the IKEA high chair with the inflatable insert for DS at his first Xmas. He was 4 months at that point too and loved being sat up at the same level as everyone else, whilst I loved being able to use both hands 😃.
Invest in some high-chair toys too and he'll be a happy little bunny x

Thankyou! Yes he’s got a couple of high hair toys for Christmas actually so I was thinking about taking them along. Using both hands would be lovely for my dinner. X

I wanted one from 4 months for a similar reason, so she could sit it it while we ate and get used to it before we actually started on food. I couldn’t find one which advertised itself as suitable from 4 months, but I think this is probably more because weaning is now recommended from 6m rather than 4m. I just bought the one I wanted (which was supportive and had a lot of padding and shoulder straps - my daughter was tiny and struggled in the IKEA one in restaurants til about 8/9m - I will acknowledge the IKEA would be a lot easier to clean though!!) and she was fine in there.

I think any high chair would be fine, I wouldn't worry about it being from 6 months. You can use a folded towel to prop him up a bit if it's too big.

The Tripp trapp can be used for birth with the insert. Like other people have said though the only reason they all state from 6 months is due to weaning guidelines so if you've seen one you like I'd just get it.

The cossatto noodle 0+ has several reclining positions so is suitable from birth. I'd recommend it.

If your pram tips upright as well this is a good option cos then if he looks tired you can tip it back and him go to sleep there

If you’re planning to take it with you and space is at a premium can you not just get one that clips to the table. We use these at family get togethers for any baby big enough to sit up.

We have tripp trapp chairs. They are initially expensive (although cheaper second hand). But they last forever and can be used as normal chairs. Dd is now 10, has sat on it every mealtime since she was a baby and is still using it now.

We had a reclining Fisher Price one from Argos that was suitable from birth. We just used it as a safe place to put the baby while we cooked/ate until 6 months when we started weaning. Although didn't get through a whole meal without having to hold a baby and eat one handed at some point!

I got the chicco polly 3in1 high chair. From about 3 months to 6 months it was a dream, baby could join us for mealtimes and play with their toys, it had a super comfy seat and even had the option to recline right back if baby fell asleep in it.
I should NEVER have let them eat in it. Seat cover got stained and it was impossible to clean. IKEA antilop all the way from thenceforth.

You want something like this - we don't actually have a proper highchair, even at home, as our kitchen is so small, we just use one of these (can't vouch for this exact make as ours was second hand and has no label, but it's similar)

The Baby Bjorn chair is really good. Folds up and transports well, and fits snugly to smaller babies. Both of my DCs used it in the way you want from 4mo. I used to give them a plastic weaning spoon to play with as well as highchair toys.
