CMPA/dairy intolerance?

If we assume I've done everything as hygienically as possible, and that bacteria isn't the cause, can freezing breast milk cause diarrhoea at all? I'm just trying to rule it out as my 10 week old baby had expressed milk for 2 feeds today for the first time whilst I was out. This afternoon he's had 4 very watery nappies and the last one was green. I think the most likely explanation is CMPA/dairy intolerance, as I've been dairy free for 12 days due to a very gassy unsettled baby, mucousy nappies and spotty rashy face (which have all improved since other than the mucousy nappies but he did have his rotavirus vaccine 10 days ago). Some of the milk was expressed before I went dairy free, so I think it might be that, although he never had diarrhoea with it before. He never really cries in discomfort, other than when he is tired in the evenings and unsettled on the breast as he is trying to pass gas/poo but I wouldn't say he screams like colic symptoms. I had some yoghurt with breakfast and milk in my tea because I thought I'd reintroduce dairy to see if he reacted to it seeing as the expressed milk would contain dairy anyway. Does this sound like CMPA and should I be speaking to the doctor about it? I mentioned his symptoms at his 8 week check and she said I could trial dairy free but didn't really say much otherwise. Any similar experiences/advice?

Sounds like CMPA. There is a great CMPA breast feeding Facebook. You need to go diary free for at least 6 weeks to make sure the dairy protein is out of your system and his and then if you are willing to challenge it through your milk you need to drink a full glass of milk. About 50% of babies with CMPA are also allergic soya and the vast majority won’t be able to tolerate goat or sheep milk.

Have you gone completely dairy free?

Not to be patronising but dairy is in so much you might not think about.

Bread, crisps, biscuits, sweets, stock pots etc etc.

Yeah I avoided everything with dairy in strictly for the last 12 days - easier as I am wheat intolerant so most free from items are already dairy free. I am aware it takes longer for dairy to leave my body but I didn't have any choice with the expressed milk so took the opportunity to see if there was an obvious reaction as he already seems to have improved

It sounds like CMPA, but your gp does need to offer more help than they are. When my little one was diagnosed we had a referral to a paediatric dietician who gave us loads of useful information and included weaning info. The other thing to mention, you might need to avoid soya too... I made this mistake to begin with. Apparently if you react to dairy you can also react to soya... just thought I’d mention :)

He's had such bad trapped wind overnight and today 😟, and horrible stinky green poops every couple of hours. Definitely cutting out the dairy again - I've been having soy drinks quite frequently the last week or so and he hasn't obviously reacted to that but might cut it out too for a while. I feel so sorry for the poor little man writhing around 😟

Approx 50% of babies with CMPA are also allergic to soya.
