What age did you start your baby on solids?

My baby is 5 months old next week. I think she would really benefit from some solid food. She has about 7oz 5 times a day and now she's started to notice and stare when I eat and makes chewing motions. What age did you introduce solids? Google tells me no sooner than 6 months.

A few days over 6 months as then I could give him Christmas dinner as his first meal. He sat and gnawed on some turkey and carrots.

What benefit do you think it would offer her?

Both DCs were around 5.5mo as they independently reached over and swiped food from our plates (you think we would have learnt with DC2, but no). It was in their mouths quicker than we could move, so after that we thought we may as well just get started. We had intended to wait until 6mo.

About 5.5 months, couple of weeks earlier than I intended but he sat unaided, no tongue thrust and good hand-mouth coordination. Did BLW

Just wait until 6 months. The guidance is 6 months for a reason unless there is a specific reason as discussed with health professionals. Don't wish it away, I found weaning hard work.

When they grabbed them off our plates, around 9 months.

The guidance was 4 months when mine were babies. One started solids at 4 months the other wasn't interested until 6 months.
Big deal at the time, in hindsight it's insignificant in the great scheme of things.

Christmas day, he was 5 months and a half months old, he literally had 2 or 3 spoonfuls of Christmas Dinner, he was much more interested in playing with the spoons.
He didn't start eating 3 meals (not always the whole meal) until he was 9 months.

Signs of readiness for solids are not just about looking interested in food, they are:

They can stay in a sitting position and hold their head steady.
They can co-ordinate their eyes, hands and mouth so they can look at the food, pick it up and put it in their mouth, all by themselves.
The baby can swallow food. Babies who are not ready will push their food back out with their tongue, so they get more round their face than they do in their mouths.

I weaned at 6 months.

Just over 6 months, anything earlier than 6 months should be on medical advice only.
There is no good reason to start earlier otherwise and it can be harmful.

With ds he had his first taste of food at about 5 1/2 months and I think ill probably do the same with dd next month. Just a spoon or two of mushed fruit or veg though so not really weaning more of an introduction to different flavours.

If she’s 5 months then you’re nearly there. Why not go for baby led weaning and just let her have access to a few grabbable bits and pieces so she can get a run up towards her 6th monthiversary? My DS started at almost 6 months straight onto things like roast par op and dd started about 4 months on docs advice as she has some digestive issues and she was more into mushy things like banana-a MUCH messier business!!

About 5.5 months for very first tastes, settling into more of a routine at 6 months.

6 and a bit months. She wasn’t at all bothered. Don’t rush it, it’s a massive bloody faff.

4 months with my first as that was the guidelines with my first at the time.
Guidelines was 6 months with my second but due to other reason the consultant at hospital advised 4,.5 months - but if it wasn’t for that I would have waited till 6 months.

6 months.

Watching you isn't a sign. They watch you use knives and drive too, definitely doesn't mean anything!

DC1 15 weeks heavily pestered to do it by the health visitor. Really regret it, DD now 20 has IBS and I blame myself.
DC2 7 and a half months. Tried at 6 but he wasn't interested.
DC3 gleefully sucked a fistful of thankfully cold pea soup at 5.5 months! Started weaning at 6.5 months.
DC4 Over 8 months tried before but again he wasn't interested at all just spat food at whoever gave it to him then cried for breastmilk.
