Help me with naps!!

My 4 month old is an amazing sleeper at night and happily gets put in his next to me at about 6pm and drifts to sleep whilst I lay next to him then go downstairs.

Naps through the day however are non existent unless I put him in the car or walk for hours with the pram (neither practical for everyday).

I've always heard you shouldn't put a baby to nap in the same place they sleep at night as this can confuse them and then they stop sleeping well at night.. is this right? He won't sleep on me at all!

Please tell me how your 4 months old have good naps, my poor boy is so upset in the day because he doesn't have any substantial naps and I really don't know how to help him!

News to me! My 7 month old has all naps and sleep in his cot. He sleeps loads better in there.

I think it would be the opposite, as there will be a stronger sleep association with the cot the more the baby sleeps in it.

I've never ever heard that about day sleeps! How bizarre.

You can nap the baby in the cot, no problem

I suspect if he isn’t napping at all then he’s overtired. Sleep breeds sleep etc.

What are his wake times like throughout the day? You can expect at that age for his first nap to be 90 mins after wake up, and 2 or 3 naps thereafter.

You need to treat naps like a mini night routine. Nappy change, sleep sack on, little feed, swaddle and rock or put down. Cue up the sleepy cues for the baby and I’m sure he’ll start napping.

@ShirleyPhallus thank you for replying, he sleeps from 6pm - 4isham for milk for about 10 minutes - 6:00am for nappy and milk for 45mins - 8-9am so loads of sleep in the night. I then take him for a walk at about 10am for about 2 hours 🙄 just to get a good nap! Then after that he hardly sleeps for the rest of the day because he just fights it and I don't feel like I can walk for 4 hours a day just so he sleeps, I'm so tired of walking 😂

I definitely am going to try him in his gro bag in the next to me tomorrow 😊

Mine also naps in her crib and also sleeps well at night 😊. Also is recommend the Huckleberry app, it tells you when to put them down for a nap and I’d say it’s pretty accurate!

Hi my 5 month old mostly naps in her next to me, or pram or car seat or mums sofa if out. At home I do a mini nighttime routinr, bum, book, boob, bed.
First nap is around 90 mins to 2 hours after waking for about half an hour.
Next nap about 2 hours after for about 90 mins - 2 hrs
Next 2 tend to be the same awakwvtime but god knows how much sleep

Of course some days this goes to pot but I'd say about 80-90% of the time it's as above.

I start watching for sleepy cues after 90 mins of awake time and when I spot them I start winding games down, sing softer songs etc then start the routine.

She goes to bed about 8pm and up at 6:30am with 2 v short feeds in the night
