Skin to skin

Did you do much of it?

I’ve just seen an article about it again and it reminded me. Breastfeeding didn’t work out for us so he was combi bed from around 2 weeks (expressed)

Other than that I think we did skin to skin a handful of times and mostly in the hospital and and first week, and never for the hour they say you should. Hmm

I feel a bit bad about it now, but I can’t be alone?

More with my first baby than currently with my second.

I used it as a tool as much as anything to calm baby down! First baby was a real crier, second is more chill but I don't think I ever did a full hr unless i fell asleep!

We still have skin to skin now... bath together and have cuddles in the bath? That counts!

How old is your baby now? It’s never too late. I had a GA for DD’s birth so didn’t even meet her for over an hour but tried to make up for lost time once we were home. I’d get naked in the morning, get her in bed with me, everything off but her nappy, big feed and she’d sleep on my front for a while. I really liked it. If it was cold I’d wear a big dressing gown and cover her over on top of me. We bath and shower together now and she’ll have a feed in the bath as she’s a rampant opportunist.

I’m pregnant and really looking forward to this part of bonding with my baby.

No I didn’t, ever. Cuddles, just not naked ones. Had to practically prise her off me at the best of times! She’s 4 now and still very much for me, cuddles, sitting close, holding hands etc. Smile

Yes we did it, me mostly during feeding, DH when using the stretchy wrap at home, and we both shared baths with DS too. Still do and DS has not long turned 2!

He’s 8 months and stuck to me like glue, we have all the cuddles but not really skin to skin!

I had a bit of skin to skin after DS was born by section. We bottle fed from day 4/5. Didn’t really do skin to skin after that cos of the kerfuffle of stripping him off and me off whilst still being in quite a bit of pain. We had lots of snuggles, sniffing, snuggling his peach fuzz face. Not done either of us any harm.
Give yourself a break love.

It was the height of winter and baby was skinny as a bird. Woulf shiver the moment we took clothes off for bath time.
Never did it.

Not much - like Lisa78Lemon it was bloody freezing when DD was born and I didn't fancy either of us sitting round with not much on for any length of time. Lots of cuddles, we're very much attached to each other!

I did a lot of it per medical advice because I have pcos and hypothyroidism (both causing low supply) and with his tongue tie knew I could stuff up my milk supply and so didn’t want to risk it. The first time I got him I kept him on my chest for 2 hours and then every night for at least an hour and during all night feeds - during the first week the nurses would come round to check the latch and would help me take off his clothes.

After that I did it every night - basically slept without a top and put DS into an easy to remove vest but then once his latch improved (around 3 months) I found I didn’t have to do it as often.

Not really with my first. With the second I did it a bit while establishing breast feeding. DH did it more than me, he also did the first baths!

Lots of cuddles but barely any skin to skin. I found bf made me feel hot, feral and faffed and I was more comfortable with my ginormous bosoms in the nursing bra slathered in cream when not actually feeding. I think I also preferred my very jelly belly under wraps as it felt a bit weird. My whole body just felt a bit raw, pulsating and alien in the early days.
Thin natural fibres for me.
Dd liked being upright against me so spent a lot of time with her head nuzzled into my neck which was skin to skin.
