Hi all,
wondering if someone can help?

I have a 2year old boy who just throws tantrums daily. Currently, he is still having one that started at 19:00 over ice cream!! It can be literally anything, and when he starts he is awful. he throws himself to the floor, hits, spits, throws everything in his path, screams, hits our dog etc. the list is endless. He does it everywhere too, outside, inside, he even had a huge on in the Drs office and the Dr suggested he be tested for autism or adhd. It's exhausting. I am a Law student and i work, i try to make time for him, i always put him to bed, i take him on nice days out. I'm at my wits end and no idea what to do with him. He goes to nursery and has this behavior there too. I' barely getting any uni work done because by the time i have dealt with his tantrum im too exhausted to think. People have suggested he is spoilt and that i should start ignoring him but how do you ignore a child that is ripping your house to bits?

Any advice, whatsoever, would be a blessing.
TIA

No advice here I’m afraid, my 2YO is a raging ball of emotion. Thankfully they tend to last maybe 10-15 minutes at most, not over an hour. But there is a lot of them! Literally every time he is asked not to do something, or change what he’s doing, he loses his shit. We’ve got his 2 year review with the HV tomorrow and I’m half hoping she’ll offer me some kind of parenting course because I’m starting to feel like it’s all my fault, even though I can’t see any difference in my parenting from any of my friends with children!

If your doctor suggested he should be tested, then there's your first port of call. In the meantime Flowers for you.

I have a real issue with him being assessed. I feel like they are quick to put labels on children these days, perhaps I'm just as stubborn as my boy is 🤣

It's definitely not your fault!!! I have struggled with that, too! My boy doesn't talk much so I'm wondering if it's frustration at the start, and then once he's in it he can't get himself out! He's asleep now, thankfully. Hugs mama.

I just want to say to you, I have a lot of experience in minding kids, it was my main job for years in various settings including a crèche, and this is actually very common! I’m not saying there isn’t any issues there as I don’t know him personally nor am I qualified to comment in that regard, but you are not alone at all and also I doubt it’s your parenting! Some kids are big tantrum throwers especially at two(terrible twos phrase comes to mind!) and most kids do grow out of it to be level headed kids, teens and adults! (I have seen some of my angry past toddlers as grown ups😂) it’s not advice, but I hope it might give you a bit of comfort!!!

Thank you! I'm hoping it is just something he's going to grow out of, or use to become a CEO 🤣

Don't worry about labels. If the label is correct or clears the path for him to receive the help he needs to have the best start in life he can have. To not get a label he needs means he can't get that help and will be worse off. Best for your child to let an assessment happen if that's what the doctor recommends.
