My son is 4 and half months iv been giving him baby porridge with 1oz of formula as i see people make it with breast milk so thought formula would also be ok iv just read the packet and says make with water is there a reason to not use formula? Im now worried i could have blocked him up as has been constipated? Please help does everyone make with water?

Have you been told to early wean for a reason? If not, then it isn't reccomended

You really shouldn't be making it at all as your baby is under 6 months. If you were weaning for medical reasons under doctors advice you would have been told what to do.

Unless you've been advised for medical reasons, please don't wean until 6 months. There are absolutely no benefits to it, and when you do wean, use regular porridge oats as baby porridge is usually full of sugar!
Warm baths, bicycle legs and gentle tummy rubs for constipation.

Baby porridge will already have milk powder in it which is why its made with water
If he's constipated I'd stop the porridge and go back to just milk

Unless you have been advised by a doctor, weaning should start at 6 months.

Why are you weaning now? If medically necessary, your doctor should be giving you very specific instructions, so follow them. If not medically necessary, STOP and feed finger foods after 6 months.

Speak to your gp and health visitor, they will give you advice regarding the constipation and how to wean early if this is what they have advised. Best to just go back to formula until then.

@Hannahmc12 they can show the physical signs but baby's gut isn't mature enough at the moment. Hold out - enjoy not having to think of food 24/7 for just a little bit longer!

@Hannahmc12 try again when he's 6 months - have you looked into baby led weaning? Baby just eats what you eat with the exception of honey & whole nuts and cut and cooked appropriately for their age. It's great fun and no need to splash out on expensive purées and jars every week!
