School run when you're ill

How do you manage it when you're ill???

I've been up all night with a migraine and vomiting. I've no energy at all and school is a mile walk each way. Tempted to order a taxi to take us all but I'm worried about vomiting in it.

No local parents to take them for me either and youngest is 7 so can't walk alone. 16 year old could take them but then he'd be late for his school.

What do you do when you're the ill one?? Suck it up and carry on??

I pretty much had to suck it up and carry on but I could drive which made it easier. It's shit!

Can the 16 year old take them by taxi and then get the taxi on to his school? Can another parent meet them at the taxi so he can drop and run?

The 16 year old in a taxi, drop to primary then taxi take older one to school.

Call 16 year old and explain what they are doing and why they will be late.

I would say 16yo to take them and let him be a little late. Exceptional circumstances (as the world is at the moment, anyway!)

I hope you feel better soon, migraines are awful

Same position for me too. Will just suck it up and walk eldest to school as DH can’t take the morning off (he had yesterday off so I could rest) migraines are the worse

I would also say 16 year old should take them and be late or get a taxi. The other parents and taxi driver won't thank you for throwing up on them.

Can you write a note for the 16 year old explaining why he is late?

Depends on how long your migraines last (mine were three days long) and how severe and whether you will be capable of collecting the seven year old at the end of their school day which is presumably shorter than the 16 year old's?

You can't really have your older DC cutting their day short as well being late. If that would be the case I'd, exceptionally, keep the seven year old at home. If it's just one way this morning then let the 16 yr old take the seven year old in a cab.

When better, I would make sure I created an "emergency only" WhatsApp group with three other school mums who you know won't take the michael for when you have your next migraine and obviously return all favours in full.

Hope you feel better soon.

I guess you’ve sorted something out by now but for a one off like this I’d keep the 7 year old at home.

I'd let the 16yo take them and be late.

I've had to call mil over this morning as my back has gone and I literally can't walk. If she wasn't around I would have had to keep them home.

Dh is a teacher and he could have arranged cover but as always insists that he can't. That's another thread though.

We got a taxi in the end, 7 year old point blank refused to leave with 16 year old.

DH said if I'd been awake when he left he would have offered to come back and take kids to school. Makes no sense to me at all!

Thanks though, I've got more painkillers from Tesco and am going to try and sleep it off

Good luck on sleeping it off, sometimes that works like magic for me. Will DH be able to pick up the 7 yo if you can't?
