Hairbrush for a newborn

I got confused in choosing a hairbrush for a newborn, there are too many types. I know it must be soft, made from natural materials. How to choose the best one? I don't want the child to get hurt, as he likes to gran all things.
Maybe you know some TOP lists? Thank you very much!

Do you really need one? My DD was born with a decent amount of hair, but I still very rarely brush it, and she is now 2 with lots of hair! It is straight though, so doesn't really tangle much. I got a soft one randomly from a German make... can't recall the name, it's natural fibre brush with a wooden handle. I got it in a large farm shop/ gift shop type place, like I said, very random! I tend to mainly use a wide toothed comb after her hair has been washed now, and not really a brush.

My DD was born with a lot of hair and I didn't need a brush She's two now well below shoulder length and we need a brush. As her hair was so long, I used a hairclip to keep it out of her eyes from around 8 months.

Why do you need a hairbrush for a newborn?

I think brushing is a good idea. It reduces cradle cap and feels lovely. Get a super soft one and wait for the smile.

Don't tell me none of you have had the joy of doing a side parting or a combover with your newborns? Grin

I just got a cheap one online with soft bristles. I think it felt like a little massage. DS loved it, he didn't have a lot of hair but I didn't care.

I just used the hairbrush I got in a baby grooming set. Pretty sure it's not made out of natural materials, but it is lovely and soft. She's gummed it many, many, many times and it's not been damaged. DD loved having her hair brushed as a newborn, you could see her relaxing while we were brushing.

Oh, our nurse told it's a great way to massage and stimulate hair follicles.

You don't need a hairbrush for a newborn but there's no harm in getting one if you want one. I liked ours and it wasn't expensive.

DS had loads of hair when he was just born and kept it unlike many babies. I used the Boots baby hairbrush which comes in a set with a comb. It was reasonable cheap but nice and soft too. DS is now a two year old hair twiddler so the comb is handy to get the knots out.
