Burping tips

DS is two weeks old and has been a struggle to burp since birth. Tried all the usual hints and tricks but often it will take absolutely ages to burp him or he just won't burp at all. Any ideas on how I can make burping a less stressful time for him? DH is back at work now and I'm feeling the pressure now I'm alone!

Muslin over your shoulder, him upright held against you with his chin on your shoulder, walk up and down stairs (assuming you have them). He may not always need to burp but more likely if formula fed than breast.

@mumtotc have you tried putting him on your knee with your hand over his chin then rotate him in a circular motion one way a couple of times then the other way a couple of times then a pat on the back? Xx

My granddaughter is 4 weeks old and guzzles her bottle so if you don't burp her regularly she throws it all up. If I feed her I find it easier to sit her upright on my lap, lean her forward with a hand under her chin and rub her back / usually foes the trick. Congrats on becoming a mum.

Have you tried lying him down on his back on your lap then sitting him up relatively quickly with a hand on the chest supporting his chin? That motion helped my DD. With my DS I found that almost trying to push the burp up from the bottom of his back with the palm of my hand worked rather than patting him on the back

Just to say...I never winded my ds2. He just didn't need it. Is he uncomfortable without a burp?

I can only wind mine if I lie her on me with her head on my boobs.
The magic hold works for my partner - hold baby on your arm with the head in your elbow and hand on the tummy.
My mum holds her facing away and her (mum) arms around her (baby) waist.
Try a few positions and see what works best for you.

She's doesn't wind easily and gets uncomfortable so use infacol too - this makes little bubbles join together into bigger bubbles which are easier to wind.
My HV has suggested winding before a feed as well as afterwards to shift any wind left from the previous feed.
